Alright so I own a R50 Mini Cooper and have the R50 version key fob with just the lock and mini logo for the unlock. Last week, the fob just quit on me and I'm not sure if it's the battery. The car is new to me, I bought him back in July, but it is a 2002. Should I get a new battery and is it an easy fix? I don't have any Mini dealers around where I live. What battery do I get to fix it? It's not a issue manually locking the car but it's kind of annoying. Thanks for the help.

 

There are instructions in the Owner's Manual. Pry open the cover to replace. It's a common battery easily found at Walgreens and many other stores.

 

It is a re-chargeable battery in the R50. (key and fob all in one). It charges while it is in your ignition. I don't know if it is replaceable.

 

Afaik, the rechargeable fob came later, not sure when, but definitely after 2002. You'll just have to pry it open and replace it.

 

Rechargeable fob is the 05-06 3 button fob. The two button has a standard button cell battery as rkw stated.
