2004 Cooper S power steering issue

My car drove home last night in the rain without any issues at all. To get in my driveway it takes a few forward and backwards maneuvers and it was fine. Today I go out and the steering is out, I drove it and it never kicked on. I checked the fuse in location 41 and it was blown for the fan, I change it out the fan sounds louder than before and still no steering, I find it weird this starts today after sitting all night with a blown fuse to boot. And the fan was a slight whine now its not there at all. Maybe the pump overheated? but in the rain i figure it would run cooler and all. very confusing I will have to check the fuse under the panel under the hood tomorrow. The whine I used to hear may have been the pump and maybe the fan was out this whole time because the noise i hear with the ac on is nothing i have heard before when I changed the fuse out. Any ideas?

After 8 years its likely that your pump is toast. How many miles?

80k on it now, the steering went out a month ago but came right back when i shut it off and started it again. this time its just flat, im wondering if the fan has had a blown fuse this whole time and the buzzing i could hear was the actual pump. Now the buzzing is gone and the loud fan comes on with the ac on a new noise since the fuse i never heard before.

I pulled the fan out today and checked it i could turn the blades with my finger 3 to 4 turns then it would bind then get past that tightness and spin 3 or 4 more times again and bind so i am thinking this is why the fuse was popped, the fan must be going and the pump probably overheated, I will run it manual for a while I cant see spending 700 bucks or more in just parts for easier steering right now. darn it.
