Stock instrument location?

I'm looking at a 2006 "S" with a different instrument layout. Both tach and speedo are located on the steering column and the usual Speedo location is inhabited by gauges, Oil pressure, temp, coolant temp and gas gauge.

Was this just an option? Or did it come with specific models?

Thanks for the help!

Jim

Thought the ones with both gauges on the column, had the nav guide screen in the center. Am I correct guys? I have an 06 S with the speedo in the middle, are you saying there's no screen on middle there at all either?

Like this?

It was an option called the "Chrono Package". I believe it was available on both Justa as well as S models but it could have just been the S.

Wow. Sweet!! Never knew or saw that before. I like, I like! Thanks for finding that pic calforhelp! I'd guess that's what our buds referring to.

EDIT: I wish I could go back in time and swap to that package. Is this possible to swap in? Or would the wiring be a nightmare? If I were to guess it would be the latter. Just wonderin though.

The chrono pack could easily retro-fitted but you would need to get a brand new unit. Used units are vin coded and cannot be updated to a new vin. The mileage is stored in the center gauge pack so if you put a used chrono pack in your mini your mileage would read off.

The nav would be much more expensive to retro-fit and not worth the time or the money. Mini wanted $3k just to fix mine. No thanks.

Back in 2006, I was just about to order the car that I found on eBay, now my faithful TRACKRAT. It only had 4K mi., no sunroof, Chrono Pack and LSD! Orig. owner had expected to track it but succumbed to a Corvette Z06 "give-away" they were having. I saved $$$$...His loss was my gain!

I ordered my 06 Justa with Chrono pkg option. Sure wish it was still offered. Anyone know what prompted MINI to take it away? Sure seemed popular while it was available.

That's not my impression. I think it was the least popular of the 3 configurations (speedo, Nav, chrono). Chrono was available only in 05-06, then the R56 came along with its complete redesign. What they should have been doing is display gauges on the Nav screen.

When you say "black screen", do you mean completely nonfunctional like no MINI logo when you get in the car and not even a very dim glow at night?

no mini logo shown, there is definitely back lighting going on so the unit is receiving power.

I'll just reply here...

Besides being a 'suspension guru' my 9-5 is repairing OEM Radios and Navigation systems. It's what I do all day, every day.

Easiest solution is to send your screen and drive and let me power everything up. I bench test then can tell you what's wrong and what a repair would cost.

I also supply OEM-like navigation with further options, DVD player, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. pretty cool stuff.
