I can't get my USB to work in my mcs

I have an 08 mcs and a regular iPod USB cable and an iPhone..and when I plug the USB in it shows up as entry. What do I gotta do to get this to work cuz I'm tired of having the aux plugged in and then a separate cable to charge it haha

That's exactly what you have to do with a "regular" iPod USB cable.

Your car should have come included with MINI's iPod Y-cable, which has an iPod/iPhone dock connector at one end and USB/aux at the other end. It would show songs on the radio display and allow you to select songs from the radio and steering wheel controls.
