dealer dont offer me much.

trading my 02 mcs for a new '13 vw gti.

mostly to do with wife car( jetta) is gone from somebody running a stop sign.

dealer only wants to give me 4k. wtf. says 2002 is too old and they can only auction it. sadly i owe like 6.5k on it.

think i could offer it for sell here for like 6k? ive no idea how the NAM market place works.

mini has a new stage two clutch from competition clutch, m7 brace bar, Megan coil overs, DDM works intake. and 4 new Continental tires. ( one missing due to warranty replacing.)

dark silver, auto AC, 6 speed man, leather seats, and a damn sunroof.

power steer pump is starting to over heat after about 10 minutes driving. guess it needs a new pump ($700). passenger window died. and rear brake zerg fitting thingy is leaky. wheel sensor is broken on front right. thats everything i know wrong with it. got picks somewhere in on of my posts.

what yall think?

Mileage? General condition?

You'll always get more selling privately than you will for a trade-in. The dealership wants to make money on re-selling it, naturally. List it on Craigslist, etc. Check Autotrader to see what other people are selling the same car for.

I was surprised to see the average price (listed price, not sold for.) in Canada for my '06 Cooper was like $17k, with double the mileage. Geez, that's what I paid for it almost three years ago... maybe I did get a good deal

106k miles.

its good shape, not prefect. no body damage. i think its really great shape for its age.

little rust bumps, bottom of doors. \couple minor weird spots on paint.
inner water fall paint is a bit worn off from leg rubbing against it.
seats /dash /headliner perfect.

I think you could ask for $6k and be happy with $5500.

My frame of reference: just bought a first Gen Cooper. It's an 05... one of the best years for a MINI. it has 73k miles. It was very well maintained, mechanically. It was in fair shape aesthetically.... nothing my buffer and polishes couldn't take care of except a few dings. Paid $8600 for it.

Looked at dozens of other ads, too.

Try this link for a rough idea. I started the search with some random Florida zipcode.

Yeah, Craigslist is your friend. I bought my MINI locally through Craigslist (if you call a 2 hour drive local lol) for $8500. The guy was listing it for $8900, but my husband offered him $8500 and wha-bam, he accepted right away, only cuz he knew of the existing fix-its. Mine is a 2003, so I think that was a relatively good price, since it had 98k. My husband bought his 2004 for $6k, but a friend sold it to him, so he got a killer deal (plus the mileage as around 130k).

Your 2002 with that mileage should be good for $6k, if not a little less. You'd be surprised how many 1st gen MINI's, even 2002's, that are being sold privately for twice that, because people don't understand how to price their car :P

My main point being...you can defintely get more than $4k for that car if you do not sell it to the dealer. They lie so much, it's not even funny...

I got $7k trade-in for my '02 non-S and no options in April this year. It had only 61k miles on it but, it was done with it so I knew I could get more for it, but it was what made me happy. They sold it before they got pictures on on the website (<4 days) for almost $11k I think.

I bought mine at a dealer. I paid $8895 cash after negotiations (listed for $10995). 03 w/sport, premium, and cold weather. The car is Chili Red and has 87k miles. Had some very very minor things it needed but looked mint inside and out. I wanted a bit more off (taxes fees ect to account for at a dealership vs private party) but these guys have to make some profit. I'm sure it would go privately for near your asking price.

Yeah, I could not believe how much they were asking for it. I would have felt bad selling it private party for $9k after knowing all that it had done and what was wrong with it.

Check local prices for Minis as they vary drastically by area. Six months ago, I got my super clean and reasonably equipped 06 MCS for 11k in New Jersey when most similarly specced minis were easily going for 14-17k in the DC area. If you are in a high demand area for Minis, i would strongly suggest selling privately for that reason and also because it has a few minor issues that enthusiasts wouldn't have a problem with but may be a deal breaker for the average car buyer. Your asking price isn't bad for the mileage and since there seems to be a bit of demand for R53s among enthusiasts, you should be able to get your price if you post your car on nam or any other Mini forum.

Edit: For some reason, I thought someone else's suggestion for selling the car at 6k was your asking price. I think that's a fair price and that you can probably go as high as 7k if your in the right area and find the right buyer.

I'd also post it on Sunshineminis.org

that's a place local Florida folks will find it.

What's Blue Book on it? If you take it to CARMAX - there are many in Florida - IME their offer is going to be the KBB trade in price..... not the best, but honest and a quick process.
