KW Variant 1 Coilovers

I have a 2010 MCS.

I've read all the confusing threads on coilovers.

I believe the KW V1 will be the best option for me. My car is still under factory warranty but I'm still going to go ahead and install these. I don't believe if I have a major motor issue they can really void my warranty for coils

So what else do I need to purchase with these coilovers? I obvioulsy want to get the car aligned so I don't eat tires alive.

Sounds like the V1 just is bolt on and go correct?

If you're planning a decent drop, you will more than likely need adjustable control arms in the rear to bring the camber back into check. Something like this....

Thank you. That's what I was wondering. So no need for camber plates? or links?

If your going to lower the car you will need the rear adj camber links:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/h-sport...ber-links.html

Please feel free to call us and we'll discuss options and figure out everything you actually will want for your build. We stock KW's so we can help you out.

Thanks. I shot you a PM on here. Never heard back. Soon as I am ready to drop the hammer I will give you a call. Looks like the 1400 KW are really about 1700 with the camber links. Are camber links the same thing as adjustable rear arms?

I've had my MINI for a few weeks. It has sport suspension package.

I did KWV1s, Hotchkis Racing lower control arms, and an NM Engineering 22mm RSB (middle hole) on my 2011 at 700 miles from OutMotoring and could not be more pleased. (I also ditched the heavy RFs, and added super light weight wheels). The results were more than astounding. This set-up is perfect for me. A-W-E-S-O-M-E.

Aaron at OutMotoring is quite knowledgeable, does not push for a particular brand, communicates well and promptly (Email/phone calls), very fast order turnaround and at that time I recieved free shipping and a decent discount also. (Check the vendors' forum her on NAM for the monthly dicscount "code".)

Whoever you decide to deal with, do it. Do it now. You will not be sorry.

Enjoy your MINI, that's what they're for... right?

Thank you for the input. I am coming from the offroad world. Nothin worse then having bad negative camber. Eats tires alive and looks silly unless you are racing. Looking at the camber links I might just machine my own. I already have some heims and a big metal lathe.

I have purchased Items from both vendors. Outfront has the KW's for 50 bucks cheaper and Way has the control for cheaper LOL.

Just need to finish convincing the wife and I will drop the hammer. Can't wait!

Ive had mine for 2 yrs now. I lowered a little bit when i corner balanced it but never got links. The added camber wasnt bad enough to kill my tires, it wears them unevenly but not bad at all.

Outfront has the kw for 1395.00 and they have 5% off right now. Seems like a pretty decent deal.

Whats the least amount you can lower the car with the KW coilovers? I know most people ask how far you can slam them down but I am wanting to know how close to stock they can run...

Also, which coilovers of the KW line come competely assembled with the top hats? If I were to do a suspension change I am thinking I don't want to have to take the top hats off my stock so they can stay together for easy swapping if needed.

I believe the minimum drop with V1s is 1.2".

Regarding keeping the stock suspension, might I recommend getting some Vorshlag camber plates to go with the V1s. The B-Spec MINI racecars use this very combination (albeit with custom valves V1s).

Are there brands of coilovers that will allow and ride height range that's close to stock?

So far I have only seen 2 that lower less than an inch minimum.

The highest height i found was the CROSS competition coilovers. Min height drop is 0.5". But they are not made for DD. And they cost $2.4k.
The other one is the KW Clubsport coilovers. Lowers 0.8" min. But like the CROSS coilovers, they are not made for DD, and they cost $3k....

BTW, why do you want coilovers that are close to stock ride height? Just curious

Performance upgrade mostly. I don't mind a little drop but for the street the mini is already a low car. Sure there is wheel gap but I am not driving a race car. My Porsche has almost the same finger wheel gap. 1/2" to 1" lower is a good compremise.

I am figuring out what to put on the car for next seasons autocross to keep the car from diving and squating so much.

Another good option for you for a street ride is the JCW springs (lowers 10mm) and Koni sports or Bilstein sports struts/shocks. These will give you pretty good performance with minimal lowering.

Did you consider Megan Racing coilovers? It looks like you can retain the stock height if you want.

I want to lower my car a fair amount. I also don't want lowering springs and shocks.

Anybody have a good source for buying the JCW springs? It looks like from Classic Mini before a NAM discount they would be about $700 for the four springs. Pricey for springs unless they are that good I guess.

If you get the B-Spec version of the Vorshlag Camber plates, they include an additional spacer which raises the ride height another .25", so the car could be a little less than an inch lower than stock.

KenWarren,
Can you, or anyone, source the Megan coils minimum lowering height? I haven’t been able to find that info. I will shortly have a new driver in the house and to avoid possible having to replace a front bumper I’d like to have the option of bringing it back up to oem height.
