Question about wheels...

I bought my mini used, and when I got it, it had the tire pressure light on and the dsc (dcs?) lights on.

My first thought was custom rims, they forgot to put the sensors back in. Then I found out on 2003 the sensors aren't in the wheels.

So I guess the question is will 19" rims make the sensors not work? I'd have to check the exact tire size if that makes a difference. I'd just hate to order new sensors if it's not going to fix the problem until I got a different tire/wheel combo.

The 1st gen cars go by wheel speed. Aftermarket wheels and tires will work fine if you initialize the tpms system. However your abs light is on hinting at a bad sensor. Usually the fronts. The right side sensor cable can pop out of it mount and rub on the harmonic damper. The left side just goes bad for some weird reason. Easy to check the right side just crank the wheels to the right and stick you hand up there. If its loose from its mount feel for a rub spot. But it would be best to get the codes scanned so you know which sensor is bad. 919-796-2712 if you need more help

I'm gonna have to track down a mini store that can check it for me soon then. I don't like a lit up dash. Do they make a consumer version code scanner? I like to be able to do all my own work whenever possible.

as for scanners you wont find anything that will get into detail enough without spending alot of money. most of the generic over the counter scanners at mcparts stores are generic obdII scanners and wont go in depth enough. as for doing the work your self, i love hearing that, most of the customers i have dont even know where the hood latch is. check the pass side abs sensor wire im betting its rubbed on the harmonic balancer. ive replaced quite a few of them. easy fix, replace sensor, clear codes with scanner or battery reset. initialize tpms and drive car. 919-796-2712 if you need more help

Honestly, I couldn't find the hood latch the first time I looked at the car. But I've done a lot of work on a lot of different cars in the past. I'm working on swapping the interior and engine put of a 76 vette while I work on the mini.

I'm taking the bumper cover off tonight to work on some light problems. So I'll just look at the front wheels while I'm at it.

Thanks for your help so far. If I run into any odd problems I can't figure out with percussive maintenance, I'll get back to you.
