wire fogs to turn on with running lights

has anyone done a hard-wire mod to make the fogs come on w/ the running lights? i know there is the ian culls, but ive yet to get one, and wiring is usually fairly straight forward.

reason being is that i have some neat amber led fog lights. they dont do diddly for light, but they look cool bc they match the amber led running lights i installed and i want it all on when i turn on the lights, but im of course too lazy to flip the switch each time.

plus, then i can use that switch for something else cool

The wiring for the fogs isn't as simple as usual as the fogs are controlled by the BCM, not a standard switch. Ian's module is your best bet, and you also get auto-up windows, track day DSC, and an hidden garage door opener if you so choose.

Nope, not unless you want to design a custom circuit like Ian did. The switches only tell the BCM that the toggle has been moved. The BCM then tells the lights to switch on or off.

i disagree on both counts, no offense

i plan on actually getting some H11 sockets and wiring the fog lights to the side marker lights (which mine are not being used). thats step 1, making the fogs come on w/ running lights.

second, i can then use the fog sockets (now empty) to connect either whatever lights to, or run a relay and use the 12v to run another set of lights. the interior switch will work regardless of if its controlled via the BCM or not.

Like Eric, I recommend get an ian cull circuit. It's about $40 (I believe there is one in the marketplace), and it literally takes 5 minutes to install. Especially easy since you have a '06, it is literally as easy as unplug the connector that goes to your switch panel, plug the connector into the ian cull circuit, and then plug the ian cull circuit into the switch panel. You can do everything with the access panel directly above the cigarette lighter.

Uh, ok. Good luck with that.

relay is a relay. the BCM doesnt know if its the original fogs connected or something else; it just allows voltage through the wires. the BCM just controls how the lights are turned on; meaning its looking to make sure the headlights are on before allowing any fog lights to work.

youll see....

I think that a point that needs to be made here is that after you spend the hours figuring it out and finally get something working, you could have spent $40 and been done with it. Anything is possible, but why reinvent the wheel?

FYI to all the nay-sayers, for about $8, I did just what I set out to do, and hard wired my fogs to my running lights. Took longer to drive to the store for the relay than the entire build.

I'll keep you updated on using the bcm switch for another set of lights.
