When i first got the Mini i taught i could use the toggle switch to lock the doors and now i can only lock them from the fob. Is this normal?

No, it's not normal, but when exactly did you try it? The toggle switch lock should certainly work when the car is running and doors closed. After the car is turned off, the lock and window switches still continue to work until a door is opened, then the switches are disabled until you turn on the car again.

The switch works when sitting in the car. I guess my question is can you lock the car from the out side of the car using the switch or do you need to use the fob? Are how do you lock the Mini if you dont have your fob?

If you are outside the car, why would you try to use the toggle? and how would you reach the toggle anyway?

Sometimes my key is in the house, and i taught i could open the unlocked door hit the switch and all the doors would lock. So the question is will the auto door locks work without the key? My other cars will work that way.

It is my understanding that you can't use the center stack toggle switch to lock your car as you get out. This is to prevent one from locking the damnable fob inside the car.

That's a good feature.

Close the drivers door and push down its lock plunger (reach over from the passenger side). Then push down the lock plunger on the passenger door and close it. This is all mechanical and will work even if the battery's dead.

It is iffy on letting you lock the car with the doors open. I have had issues with my 07 and my 93 BMW is the same way. You can just push the lock down both doors if it is really an issue. Also you can't lock the fob in the car unless the battery is dead. It just won't let you.

I thought you could program the doors to auto-lock?
