R50/53 My Mini gets me wet
My Mini gets me wet
First of all......shame on you and your filthy mind. Secondly, to my first "issue" with my new mini, grant it a small one.
On my early morning commute to work I often prefer to have my windows down instead of using A/C. My first problem is that I tend to get a cold shower from water on my roof. I can solve this with some fast stops and starts or some tight turns but that would not solve my bigger problem. When driving to and from work I pass swamp and farm land and I frequently hit very large and messy bugs. My instinct thus far is to wash them off immediately but I've found that if I neglect to close my windows before using my wipers I risk geting a disgusting splash of goo in the face or worse in my car. I'm lazy early in the morning, unless given the opportunity to pass, and just want to avoid rolling my windows up and down several times during my commute.
Are there any tasteful trim mods or other fixes available that might deflect the water and worse elsewhere?

How about posting some pictures so we know what year/ model we are talking about.
We LOVE pictures
You can also post them in the upper left area of this sight after you log in, located in the My Gallery.

Wow - you live in Orlando and prefer to drive with your windows down in the AM?! I live in Texas (OK, it's a tad more hot/humid) but abhor opening my windows.
My (very unhelpful) advice is to keep the windows closed, turn off the AC, but turn on the vents. Or, you could drive with passenger side window open and line the seat with plastic

I was hoping I could agree with you.
And I'm a man for the record.
Oh wait...I can agree. I always put my windows up before using my washer fluid and I always let the water run off the roof before opening the car up.
My mornings start around 5:30 so in general its pretty nice out. I usually drive windows down unless its raining (between the hours of 2pm and 10PM this time of year) I just prefer the wind and engine sound to radio and music most of the time.
Its a fairly stock 2002 hardtop S. I just got it a couple weeks ago and still familiarizing myself with its details but it aint got nothin' too fancy.
Here is a picture I had on hand of one side if it helps. Ill take some closer ones tomorrow if needed.

Checked out your gallery too, gepperso, wish my mini was a bit fancier on the inside like yours. In time ill get nice seat covers and what not but for the time being I'm just loving driving something not 15+ feet long.

No, it does have vinyl seats and some crazy swirly finish on the silver parts but other then that I think its all stock or close too it. It also has some Kumho tires (did i spell that rite?) that I'm told are fancy.

Until now my cars have just been a way from A to B but I want to make this one special so please throw all your wisdom at me and I'm sure something useful will stick.

You can use the VIN decoder on here to see all the options that you do have.
The one option I couldn't figure out if I had or not was the LSD...so I found a deserted country road at about 11PM one night...let it rev to about 5k, dropped the clutch, then shifted into second when it hit the redline.
When I turned around, sure enough there was one strip of rubber about 80 feet long with a short break where I shifted
. Now I wouldn't recommend doing this test to your car if you want to minimize wear and tear...but as for a test of whether or not a specific option is installed it was a considerable amount of fun.
get these, and then post pics and tell us how hard or easy it was to install them!

Spray your windshield while drifting, mess flies off to the side, problem solved lol.
But, I saw somewhere (on this forum or another) that someone went to an auto parts place bought that chrome vinyl trim... forget what it's called door trim or molding for cars. But he put it vertically on the edge of his windshield and he said it caused the water hit it and run along it straight up and over the roof, and not off the side and in the windows. If you're desperate enough to try this, try to get it in black not chrome.

Seat options without upgrading are either leatherette (read: vinyl) or cloth. Leatherette does sound so much fancier, huh?
which is more lazy?
to just roll your windows up on occasion for a few seconds?
or to take all the time creating this post and spending your hard earned money and time looking for a solution to the problem?
you could get the ian cull auto up window switch to make it a little easier for you and still be at half the price of those ebay deflectors

My buddies at my shop (wood not automotive) told me its vinyl and I tend to agree. They have been building furniture and working with leather for longer then I've been alive so i count them as a trusted source. That VIN decoder sounds cool I cant wait to see how plain my car is
Those deflectors off ebay look perfect for what I need. I do however want to find some testimonials from others before i drop $120 on something that might fix a minor problem. If/when I do get these Ill be sure to update this thread with the results.
As for being lazy, I am a expert on the subject, and being so skilled at being lazy my laziness can be very specific. In the morning I have just enough motivation to do two things.....shift and pass. If I have to work the windows too I'm either stuck in 3rd or stuck at 50 neither is a pleasing option.
An auto up switch is a great idea though and Ill definitely do that in the near future. My windows however, drip just a little bit during my entire commute. A small puddle almost forms on the flat part near the front of the door. Yes it would be a simple thing to wipe off my roof in the morning or wipe the trim when driving once or twice but its more fun to fiddle with stuff.
As for creating this thread after a couple puffs and a few beers
when I started thinking of my problem and the title "My mini gets me wet" popped into my head I had to post. You see I'm single atm so I have nothing much better to do then play around online, waste my not so hard earned money and fiddle with my new shiny toy.

No, just drops of water for a good 10-15 min. It all comes from the roof or window spray, it just kinda hangs onto the outside trim and takes a while to all drip off. Like I said I could wipe it off with a cloth but I want more elegant fix.

This is a problem.....do I come across as a chick
? I understand if the title threw people off but I couldn't work boner into any plausible scenarios, sorry. If however, it was something else I need to know. I've been assumed as many different races and ages but never as a chick, as least not so boldly
. I try to be manly on a daily basis and if my online persona needs manlyification then please let me know and tell me how
WHOA ! Sorry to disappoint but I'm a DUDE. I mean if u wana smoke me out buy me food and beer I'm there but that is as far as it goes with other dudes.

You forget the stigma that the MINI is a "chick-car." I hadn't had my R53 a week before I was told "its the gayest thing ever.
"
Stigma shmigma! I've had my mini for like 3 weeks now and it attracts way more women then my trucks ever did. A few people I know have made fun of it but they are all rednecks and drive big *** trucks. Most of them shut up too once I took them for a spin. I can no longer carry plywood but Ill take being able to pass and take a corner over construction materials any day.
