AT THE TRACK Oil Pressure light came on

So,

Had a track day on Saturday and was taking some laps with our new (to us) 2005 MCS. Purchased from a member on here. Car is beautiful and we are so thankful the way it was taken care of from the PO.

Anyway...driving around the track, on the corners, the oil pressure light would flash on then off. I know this can happen when the oil is moving around when the car is going through hard cornering. This does not happen on normal driving. Could this be a sensor? Or do you folks who track your Minis have an accusump to help keep the oil pressure up?

FYI...oil level is topped off.

Thx

I have never had the oil pressure light go on during track days or auto-x.
Many people suggest running an extra 1/2 quart or so of oil.

Could be the wire connection or a short in the wire that grounds out during turns. Make sure the wire is tight at the sensor connection. Look at the wire insulation to make sure there are no spots where the insulation has rubbed through to the wire and could touch against something metal.

The oil pressure switch (sensor) is on the oil filter mount. Look for the oil filter and the sensor/connector is on the back side of the mount. #8 in diagram.

I have seen a few switches go bad, but if it is dry it would not be my first guess. If the light is only on in the corners (or maybe even hard breaking?) then i would guess you are not getting oil around the pickup. We have found that the Gen 1 cars like an extra 1/2 qt. of oil in them on the track. But you might also want to try adding one of these. It will keep the oil around the pickup so you never get any air.

Yes....thanks. This is exactly what it was doing. Under hard braking and in corners.

So...add 1/2 a quart if the oil level is already full? This is ok? I ask this again because my Audi is very specific to "Nicht Uberfullen"

I have added 1/2 quart extra with no resulting problems.
