drive by wire?

Hey guys! I'm new on here, I just got a mini (2012 R56 non S) and I was wondering if it was drive by wire or drive by cable. I felt a slight amount of lag when I was driving yesterday so I'd assume drive by wire.

Yes, they are drive by wire, I find that driving it in Sport Mode greatly reduces throttle lag.
You could install a Sprint Booster, or a D1 spec throttle controller, they eliminate throttle lag also.

Yes it is drive by wire throttle. The sprint booster is a great option to get better throttle response.
We also do it with ECU tuning.

Thanks for the info. I am definitely going to look into those options.

Quick question though, what exactly does sport mode do, other than decrease throttle lag? I was thinking about leaving it on all the time, but I didn't want to be wasting gas for no reason.

Thanks again in advance.

The sport mode will also change the steering to give it a different feel. On your MT it adds the burble and pop (I guess a non-S gets that as well) which uses a very tiny bit of extra gas (probably not measurable).
