Well, I just got a call from my dealer that my MINI MCS will be in next week. WOO WOO!!

I probably should have been writing down all the issues I've been reading about all this time, but I didn't, so I'm going to ask here.

What should I check closely when I go to pick it up?

My list that I have so far is:
All emblems are S
Shipping blocks have been removed (but how do I tell/where do I look?)
All the goop (cosmolene) has been cleaned off
All the fluids are full
Paint all matches

What else should I check? :???:

Make sure the CD player works. Don't want to drive home tuneless .

Make sure you look under the hood, and pull the clear plastic protective tape/sticker off of the MINI logo on top of the engine.

It will melt on there if they forgot to pull it off!

The shipping blocks you mention are white plastic chocks put into the front suspension to prevent the cars bottoming out as they are loaded / unloaded onto the ships. If present, they can be seen by looking at the front suspension - they should be obvious (but it's very rare for them not to be removed prior to delivery).

Check the fluid levels, tire pressure (correct pressure is on a sticker in the driver's door jamb) and the fit & finish of the car (looking for blemishes, obvious flaws, etc.). Figure out what programs you'd like for the remote key and the car (i.e., comfort opening of windows/sunroof, daytime running lights, auto-lock at 10 mph, follow-me-home lights 40 sec. - 2 min.). If you fax your custom settings ahead of time, perhaps they will be programmed and ready for you at delivery. I had to make a follow-up appointment to have my settings done, but that gave me time to drive MINIclo a bit before I decided, which was fine.

Because it is so exciting, you may forget all these items, so print out a checklist to follow in your gaga state!

Thanks MINIClo. I already told my wife that we're taking the cameras. Tire pressure wasn't on my list yet.

Winding roads? I don't think I've seen many around here. And certainly none between the dealer and home. It might actually be worth driving on the Las Vegas Strip to see what kind of reactions I can get. *grins* We locals usually avoid it like the plague, you know.

Open and close the hatch door a few times, both manually and with the zapper on the key. There have been a lot of malfunctioning latches. Good luck with your MINI. Ron.
