Thank you Pauhana, 5280, & MITM
Thank you Pauhana, 5280, & MITM
A quick note to my MINI friends.
I had every intention of enjoying the MITM weekend in it's full capacity as I have in past years but Thurs evening found me in Swedish hospital fighting an infection and recovering from surgery on Tues. I was having serious MINI melancholy detachment withdrawal issues and very disappointed I couldn't attend. :(
Friday was a better day and I got sprung from my prison, I mean hospital bed. I would miss the endless interruptions (there is no rest in a hospital), syringes, pumps, etc. I would long for the gourmet meals
but hey, I was FREE!
Saturday am using black ops skills that I learned at MTTS and utilizing extreme wheelchair camouflage (I am a professional, please don't try this at home) I snuck past nurse Helga and did a front wheel burnout out of my cul-de-sac. Again - FREEDOM!
I made it to WP / MITM in 36 minutes flat.
(c'mon you guys know I can, I would never exaggerate
). I was a little excited and I didn't care if Buford T. Justice was chasing me! I chuckle at your efforts to catch me in my hospital gown - yes, always, fashion counts.
After enjoying a beautiful chamber of commerce day with the rest of you my MINI (soon to be a pumpkin) beckoned and the wrath of Helga awaited. Sadly, my yard time was up. Like a kid who doesn't want to go to bed I stalled, delayed and procrastinated my way to 4:30 and just as I was beginning to approach the zenith of my departure anxiety a Purple Hazed MINI appeared, it's driver cloaked with a cape and lone ranger mask. I was confused, curious and nervous over this masked marauder..
Who? What is this?
Lo and behold it was my friend Rick Gonzales with a signed 2012 MITM poster autographed by many of you, as well as Charlize Theron -
Needless to say, this gesture truly and sincerely touched my heart. I drove home with eyes welled to the brim, couldn't wait to tell Helga and had a few Old Yeller moments.
As I've said many times, even in MC2 print, MINI's and the friends & experiences I've enjoyed over the years have literally saved my life. Something about these cars, the owners who adopt them and the mutual enjoyment we all get out of them is something special, almost ethereal (at least for me). You guys gave me something special and cherished. I appreciate the acknowledgement, effort and kindness.
Thank you - and especially Pauhana for this gesture.
Have a great week, thanks to everyone who put MITM together - Great Job!
Onward & Upward,
Chris

We definitely missed you up there and were wondering where you were - sorry about the circumstances, but thanks for letting us know the details, really glad you got a chance to get up there, even for just a short while.
Chris, glad you could make the great escape and get to MITM. I saw you but did not get a chance to say hi. It seem that you have been having a tough couple of weeks. I hope everything is getting better and that you have a speedy recovery. See you soon on a ride.
