Mini Clubman S vs. Iphone 3G
Mini Clubman S vs. Iphone 3G
WARNING!! This test should only be executed by trained personnel who are too rich, too stupid, too bored or all three together!! WARNING!!
Hi,
two days ago I thought: Let's do a slightly different test from your usual boring roadtest.
The experience goes like this:
You'll need a slightly used and battered Iphone 3G (including a transparent protective case for the back). Weight: 135 gr
On the opposite you'll have your standard Mini Clubman S. Weight : 1295 kg !! :(
So far so good, now for the tricky part:
In order for this test to be possible, you will have to wear a pair of trousers with really wide pockets into which you will pop your Iphone (caution: it will of course have to be the left hand front pocket). Next you drive your Mini to the nearest flower shop to get your wife a nice bouquet for your wedding anniversary (alternative scenarios are imaginable). Should you notice on your way to the shop that the Iphone has slipped out of your pocket, do not attempt to put it anywhere safe in the car or in another pocket (this might cause the test to fail).
Now for the crucial point: When leaving the shop, you'll have to get into your car focussing all your attention on that wonderful bouquet you just bought, so as to completely miss that your phone slips out of your pocket (again) and falls to the ground. Eventual noises the phone might make when touching the ground (thus warning the test person) are to be drowned out by a passing truck or other loud vehicle (min 90db). The rest of the procedure is pretty straightforward. You start the car, put it in first gear turn the wheels to the left and take off with your tires screeching.
Result of the Tests: Mini 1 Iphone 0
But see for yourselves:

After approximately 1 hour of searching at home the idea came to me to call the flower shop to ask if I hab not left my phone on their counter. Well, some nice customer had found it outside and taken it to the shop. The actual words of the salesgril were: Yes we found a phone, well if it's your's . . . well I guess it was driven over by a car.:-(
I didn't have the guts to tell her later on that it was in fact MY!! car.
To cut a long story short: Phone still works, but you can't use it anymore nor turn it off because of the broken screen. If I hadn't had the protective case, it would probably be totally broken. To get it repaired over here I'll have to spend close to 150 bucks. :(
WARNING!! This test should only be executed by trained personnel who are too rich, too stupid, too bored or all three together!! WARNING!!
P.S.: She really liked the flowers.

Too bad you didn't hold out long enough for the 5. I can'timagine still being on a 3GS, my 4's battery life is diminished as well as not processing fast enough, nor has enough storage. It was a sign to upgrade.
I have a 3GS and I'm waiting for the 5 to come out.
This phone has gotten slower and slower over the last year. So much that I've thought about trying this test out on purpose....
I hardly use my phone any more because it takes forever to do anything!
I've started to think about a different brand. I'd hate to lose all my apps that I've paid for, but the longer I have an iPhone, the deeper in I'll be. So much money for something that's only truly good for a year.

This is a perfect chance to upgrade to a 4s, or whatever the rumored next iPhone is. I just did the upgrade (from a 3G) last year, the difference is amazing.
I sometimes have my iPhone fall out of my pocket, but so far its always been caught inside the car so I can retrieve it later. Though I was a bit nervous when it slid beneath the pedals, I didn't want to step on it, or lose control because it got in the wrong place.
