Window Issues

I believe someone tried to break into my car this week, as both my windows are suddenly having issues at the same time.

Driver's side: Goes down fine. On it's way up, everything seems okay till it gets all the way up, when it makes a loud popping sound.

Passenger side: Doesn't go up or down. When I try to use the button I hear a little clicking noise. Tried holding the button and banging on the door above the speaker to no avail.

I found the following two threads that seem helpful:

http://www.z50ak1.com/mini/default.htm

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm

Optimally, I would love to do this without buying new parts. I just finished replacing my cooling fan and power steering fan, which cost me a couple hundred bucks. And I need new tires, which will run me another couple hundred. So I'm a little stretched thin.

Any recommendations? I took the door panels off today but couldn't see anything obviously wrong. Then again, I am no expert.

Thanks!

I am a newbie MINI owner, but I have unfortunately had regulator problems on several of previous vehicles. I am also no expert, but it never hurts to have another head.

When you took the door panels off did you try to raise and lower the window? You might be able to track down exactly where it is popping that way. It sounds to me like the scissor arms might have gotten bent. If that is the case and you just want a temporary fix you might be able to bend them back a little bit.

Good Luck!

I did try looking around but couldn't see much. It's hard to get a good angle with everything still attached. I might have to go a bit deeper in the disassembly and see what can be seen.

I think its a known issue when the regulators click. My doors do it every once in a while, I give it a good whack on the side door panel near the regulator and the windows work. Hopefully they dont go out sometime but like I said this has done the trick for me numerous times.

I'm not having any luck with the whack maneuver. I fear that I'll have to actually take these puppies apart and maybe (hopefully not) replace them. I hate spending money on things like this, just to get something back to normal...
