Just got my MINI today! How to check the pulley

I picked up my MINI this afternoon and was enjoying it before work.

Obviously, I'm already thinking about mods. How would I look to see if it already has a reduction pulley installed? Can I view it from the engine bay, or would I have to get underneath?

TIA

Alex

Oh an also, I have a whole set of LEDs from my e46 I sold, I installed them in the interior. I put two in the lisence plate lights and they just continuously blinked as if they were hazard lights. This was when the ignition was off, no key, lights off. I suppose I need resistors right? Anyone have LEDs in the lisence plate lights ?

Look down from the top. If you see/feel a plastic plug in the SC shaft, you have the OEM pulley. The aftermarket pullies are generally flush, but they all cover the end of the shaft.

Remember when you get the pulley you'll want a smaller belt and one step colder spark plugs. Waymotorworks sells a nice combo kit. Also, don't forget to get a proper pulley removal tool. I tried using a 3 jaw gear pulley and in the end had to completely remove the front end of the vehicle, remove the supercharger which now had a mushroomed tip and take down to the bmw dealer to have the shop use a floor press with about 15-20 tons of force to remove the stock pulley. Could've saved myself the hassle by using the right tool!!!

That is exactly the kit I am going to get. 15% or 16% reduction. I'm just going to have my friend do it at his shop. I don't have the proper tools or area to do a job like that.

Even if you do it at a shop, you'll need a special tool (unless it's a mini shop).

They rent them at ALTA and I think it's free if you buy their pulley. I have a 17% pulley and I love it.

Also get an intake while you're at it and it'll really feel and sound like a different car. Enjoy!

I really recommend checking out Alta's package.

It comes with everything you'll need like the colder plugs and smaller belt and for around 20 or so horsepower, I think its a damn good price. They don't have a 16%, but they do have 15 and 17. I heard you could get a 19% from the somehow. Anyways, wherever you get it from, you'll enjoy it!
