I've been lurking for a while now and thought I might introduce myself! I'm Cindy and I am going to be getting a MINI in about a year. I have learned so much from reading this forum and I can't wait to get my MINI!

So far this is what I have decided on....

Liquid Yellow/White or Chili Red/White (I change my mind every week LOL)
Black Leatherette/Silver
CVT
Premium & Sport Packages (but I don't want the sunroof)
HK
Silver 8 spoke wheels
Park distance control
White bonnet stripes
Front/rear fog lights
Xenon lights

Anyone have any advice/critiques on my choices? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Cindy

HI Dr. NICK! <tv quote>

Hey Cindy!

Good to see you posting! The only thing I'd tell you in your configuration is to not bother with the park distance control. It's very easy to determin where the back of the car is and it's very easy to park!

Enjoy and keep us posted!

haf

Cinnimini,

Aloha and welcome to NAM.
Your selections are good. Waiting about a year?? Yikes.

>>So far this is what I have decided on....
>>
>>Liquid Yellow/White or Chili Red/White (I change my mind every week LOL)
Both are good but very different. Personally I think the Red is very sharp.
>>Black Leatherette/Silver
Leatherette is very easy care. Cloth is another good option but it is not as tough.
>>CVT
I rather like the CVT esp in manual mode or SD (sport)
>>Premium & Sport Packages (but I don't want the sunroof)
Not sure if you really need these. Adds to the cost quite a bit. Doesn't sport package add Xenons and fog lights already?
>>HK
For a factory installed upgrade it is pretty good but not audiophile quality. I like it.
>>Silver 8 spoke wheels
Nice and light, basic wheels. Good.
>>Park distance control
I don't like this but some owners do. I'd save the money.
>>White bonnet stripes
>>Front/rear fog lights
>>Xenon lights
I like them but others don't. My igniter in my right xenon went out and so did several other MINIs in my area.

anything else?
Floormats?
armrest?
Car cover?
Alarm?
Touch up paint!

pocketrocket - behave yourself!

As for color choices, the CR and LY with a black top is very different. I like those combinations a lot.

WOW... thanks everyone for all the great advice. I now have some new things to think about. I know the next year is going to be LONG and the wait is gong to be hell but I'm not going to get my MINI until my hubby gets back from a 6 month overseas depolyment (he's active duty Coast Guard). I am trying to talk him into ordering it before he leaves so I can pick it up when he gots home though. What kind of deposit do most dealers look at when you place your order? I'm probably going to go to East Bay Mini in Pleasanton or Niello in Sacramento. I've heard great things about Easy Bay Mini so they are going to be my first place to look.

I'm also still not sure on the CVT or 5 speed. I know how to drive a stick and am actually very good at it. Guess I'll have to test drive both... oh darn! LOL!

Minihune, I'll most likely get the rubber floormats, a cover, and the arm rest sounds nice too. Do MINIs come with factory installed alarm systems? Man I am coming up with more questions and I am so glad you all are here to help me!

Cindy

Hi Cindy
Welcome to NAM.
The only thing I would add to your car would be a Multifunction Steering Wheel.
Really like being able to control the radio without taking my hands off the wheel.

Cindy,
Depending on where your husband is, he can probably order the car overseas for much cheaper than you can get it in the states. Most bases overseas have an automobile sales place where you can order both US made and foreign made cars and have them delivered to be picked up at any dealer you want for pretty close to invoice. The savings is substantial. I remember in the early 80s when we use to by Corvettes in the Philippines and save thousands. Also when the Miata first came out and US dealers all tacked on outrageous surcharges, you could pick them up for near invoice.

Hi Cindy.

The MFSW is a must and must be ordered because it can’t be added later. I’m not sure about the Park Distance Control. The MINI only being 12 feet long, it’s not like you have much to move about when parking.

Happy you’re joining the MINI world and hope you have many fun motoring times in your new MINI.

Yes the MFSW is part of the premium package. Cindy said she didn't want a sunroof so she will have to drop the premium package and select the individual options she wants on the car. Only way I know to leave off the sunroof.

You tell your husband from me how much his service to this country is appreciated and will forever be remembered. His sacrifice and your sacrifice, given his volunteer status, is something that makes most americans be REALLY proud to be citizens of this country. A country that can count on selfless individuals to do something highly uncomfortable and dangerous for the safety and betterment of the rest of us and our brethern the world over.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I totally love this board!

Stinger, unfortunately he's going to be in Iraq/Persian Gulf so I doubt that's going to be an option. :???:

pocketrocket, thank you. I really appreciate your kind words. I will pass that message along to my hubby (he's underway right now and is 2 weeks into a 2 month patrol).

Now for my firsr silly question... if I drop the premium package and add the MFSW does it include cruise control?

MFSW always comes with cruise control. Difficult to add cruise later if you don't order it from the factory.....get the MFSW. I'd also recommend the 5-speed.

The premium package comes with On-Board Computer $200.00, Automatic AC $300.00, Multifunction Steering Wheel with Cruise Control $350.00, and the Sunroof $850.00. The premium package costs $1300.00 so if you add the other options and leave out the sunroof you'll save around $450.00. Hope that helps.

Welcome,

I have the LY/B MCS and all three packages. My wife just got a Lexus ES330 and the thing I miss is the Multifunction Steering Wheel.

Tell your husband THANKS for what he is doing.

Can't live without the MFSW (or what I call the radio control thingies in the back of the steering wheel) It ROCKS....and one feels SOOOOOOO continental, one gets an accent....
