R50/53 Getting a MINI, have a few ?????s
I just ordered my 2004 MC Blk/Blk/Blk today and there are a few things that I want to change. I want to swap gas caps and have mine look like the S. I have gotten all of the info from the forums here as how to do that. So I have that ready for it when it gets home.
The next thing that I want to do to my MINI is get a S scoop in the hood. I have searched the forums and cant seem to find any info on if anyone has done this...
I thought about buying a hood scoop and having someone cut my hood and place the scoop into the hole. But then again....that worries me. Im just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do to get this. ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to NAM
You'll have to paint your "S" fuel door trim to match your paint; I believe it comes primed.
JustGo4It_ is right - you would have to change your bonnet to the Cooper S bonnet to have the scoop. I vote "no" on the scoop; it wouldn't do any good on your Cooper (no intercooler) except mess up the nice lines of the bonnet
hope that helps,
Ryan

This gets me thinkin. . . ..
Are the bonnets interchangeable between the Cooper and the S?
If someone did a front-mount intercooler on an S, he could swap bonnets with you and you'd have what you want and he'd have a real sleeper. . . .

I like the look of the S Bonnet....which is why I want to do this mod to my mini. Any one else have any ideas on how to do this? PMLK

You are better off sticking with your MC bonnet. The MC and MCS bonnets are NOT interchangable.
However here is an idea- if you really want to you might be able to:
Get a body shop to cut a hole for the MCS scoop and find a person that has an extra MCS scoop because they got a CF one.
Consider getting a carbon fiber MC bonnet with a specially added scoop hole. M7 makes CF bonnets-check with them.
CF bonnet would look good with your Black Black Black MC

Don't do it. Just don't. There is no sense in that. It won't be an S and it shouldn't be. The Cooper looks better, no doubt. Keep those smooth lines and save up for a turbo charger. You will be a Cooper that can smoke a modded S. hAA
there were actually pictures in a thread concerning wheels. there was a red cooper that had an S hood... i don't recall the thread name, but the pictures were there, I'm sure some of you saw it.
i like my MCS hood no more/ less than the MC... but if you (or anyone for that matter) wanna change one for the other, i support you! it's good to be different sometimes
it'd be cool if you had a turbo sittin under the hood too

On the gas cap, I would instead go for those VERY cool brushed aluminum aftermarket covers....sen them on several cars and I think they are hotter than the S cap.
Be proud of your Cooper, it is a VERY, VERY cool car as is, mod the Cooper or run back and change your order to an S.
Anyway, race ya.....

SERIOUS FLAW IN TURBO INSTALL!!!! Trpl said he doesn't dig the stick, so, I'm assuming that this MINI will be CVT. CVT will only reliably support 150 HP (don't ask me to prove it, just what I've seen somewhere on here). I say go for an S. I learned stick on my S, and would never go back to a slushbox, just love the additional control. Learning is actually easier than I thought.
DO THE S!!!
DO THE S!!!
Well the CVT is far, far, far away from being your everyday 4-speed slushbox. I really can't fault anyone that wants to own a Cooper CVT as I own one myself....very fun car!
But if the original poster wants to emulate the MCS looks on his Cooper CVT...well I am not sure about that. I think he is more into the looks than the performance, which is fine. Not everyone is into engine mods, pulleys , etc.
Now, If I am going to go trough the trouble and hassle of putting S cosmetics on my CVT, then I should question my choice, because by the time I replace the hood and get the other bits I have probably already spent the $1,700 extra that separates a base Cooper S from a Cooper CVT.
I think that if it comes down to "I don't want to bother driving a stickshift day in and day out" then please, leave your CVT looking like a Cooper and not like something is not. Honestly, you'll be better off getting the MINI Aero Kit for the Cooper CVT, but then again you'll end up spending more money than getting the "Real" article.
I have seen and driven Cooper CVTs that are more expensive than a conservatively option MCS.

Why aren't teh hoods interchangeable?? I have a cvt as well and I love it, I got it becasue of traffic issues and really had no desire to use a stick in traffic so I can understadn that tehre a re a lot of reason to nto want to drive astick.. howver, I think if price truly isn't an option for astectics then I would have some one make the hood for you (unless the hoods are truly nto interchangable... you might as well find a cool hood scoop like no one else has which you can all differnet types in aftermarket catalogs.. at least if you goign to go witha scoop on a cooper you might as well be unique about it.. why make a sleep with the cvt, becasue it will NEVER actually out run a fully suped up S ( i wish it did btu the mounting research on this seems to be negative)
The MC is quite nice, who not take the cash and put it towards a turbo kit on the MC or other mods? FYI, the 2005 Mini Cooper is supposed to have a better Getrag 5 speed manual transmission.
But if you really want an S, why not spend a few extra bucks? You get a better transmission (for 2004's, at least), more power, snazzier trim, and can partake in pulley parties

the only way your really going to know is to take of a stock S hood and try it out. Im sure the mounting points are the same on the hinges.
no way I would cut in to that hood. The angel and everything on that part would never match up to the curve of the mini1
its going to cost almost as much as the difference in the price if just buying the S in the first place. mine only cost $19995 (no options)

I think RomhoG has hit the nail on the head, i.e., by the time one is done with all the body work required for this cosmetic "upgrade" (and I, like others here don't think that the look of the S is an upgrade to the Cooper), you'll have spent pretty much the difference between an S and the Cooper. Remember, even the change in fuel cap requires painting (the ring around the filler)...and certainly the bonnet swap will require painting (at minimum). Even if you find an S bonnet that's the right color, it still may require painting to get it to properly match. And don't forget about the bumpers (front/back)...you'll want to change those if you're going for the totally stock S look.
>>Not a big fan of the stick shift. Main and only reason. Any one else?
You sure you don't want a stick? A lot of people think the stick shift adds to the enjoyment of the car. Not to mention saving $1300 and improving gas mileage.

>>Just out of curiosity, why would you want to put a hood scoop on a Cooper? I have an S, and I think the lines of the Cooper are nicer...
I agree! I have an S and the Cooper is the far better looking car IMHO.
If you want a hood scoop, order an S. Or maybe a body shop can punch a hole for you , and then adapt the scoop........hey, order the S!

Red

I only want the bonnet scoop because I think it looks cool. I know how to drive a stick, I just dont want to. And this being my car....its my choice. Im not trying to look like an S so that ppl will think I have an S. I want that look because I like it. I dont want to put anything on my engine.....I for one dont care about HP and blah...blah....blah. I didnt buy my MINI to drag race it against anyone else. I got my MINI because I truly love these cars......not for any other reason. I think I may not do it.....I dont know yet. But I will do the gas cap I know that for a fact. Thanks for the help nam.......does anyone else have anything to say? Anyone here from Central Illinois??? Thanks every1 for posting your thoughts.
