R56 Removing orange/amber from headlight?
Removing orange/amber from headlight?
I've seen many people removing the orange/amber colored lense from the headlights. If I remove the lenses, will I have problems with my headlights building moisture inside after?
I haven't had any problem with condensation.
If I did, I don't think it would have anything to do with the amber lens removal.
The headlight assembly is not sealed and the amber lens does not seal the turn signal light. The amber lens merely covers the light bulb. There is a large opening in the bottom of the headlight assembly and the lens falls through that hole after it is popped out of position.
If I did, I don't think it would have anything to do with the amber lens removal.

First, you buy the Stealth bulbs #1156 from Bavarian Autosport, or wherever. Then, lift your bonnet and unscrew each headlight assembly in turn. There are four screws that hold the whole assembly in place. Carefully pull the assembly forward and sideways to gain access to the back. Unplug the indicator light part from the back, pull it out and remove the light bulb. Install the new light bulb, which is silver but blinks amber. Then, reaching through the tube in the headlight assembly with your hand or a long screwdriver, pop the amber lens out so that it falls forward. It's just two little tabs that hold it on, so it pops off pretty easily. Slide the lens around and let it fall out of the opening that is immediately underneath the tube it came off of. Plug the bulb holder part back into the back of the headlight assembly and check to see if it works, by turning the car on (without turning the motor on, so push the start button but without having your foot on the brake) One of mine wasn't plugged in far enough so it had to be twisted a bit) Screw it back together. Repeat. YAY!! See photo next to my name. Love it!
Oh, and no moisture issues. As Little Wing says, the assembly is open so it doesn't make any difference anyway. The Stealth bulbs are a lovely silver but when they blink, they are amber. That means you are still legal, because at least in most states, indicator lights must blink amber. I live on the coast and no moisture issues at all. And I did the mod myself, so it is easy and doesn't require any skill.
Another really good mod is the pulsing third brakelight. It's a little electronic thingy, costs about $25 or so, and you splice it in to the wiring for your third brake light. It pulses either three or six times when you hit the brakes. It REALLY gets attention, and keeps people from tailgating you. Though it requires a little more work than the Stealth bulbs, I feel strongly that it has saved me from being rear ended several times. If you want more info, just holler. :-) You can buy it from GoMINIGo I think.

Everyone has their own preferences, which is why our cars are so unique! Mine clashed with the Chili Red color, and once I 'saw' that, it drove me nuts. Color preferences are very personal.
