R50/53 Lowering Camber Question
Lowering Camber Question
Hey guys,
So as my suspension steadily ages towards death its time to think about replacement. Basically I've decided to do koni yellows with h sport springs. Ive heard that lowers the ride about an inch. My question is what does that do to camber? Ive read it causes negative rear camber. Does anyone know how much of a change it makes and if it can be fixed with camber plates? All help is appreciated
Thanks,
Nick

With a drop of 1" you will be increasing your neg camber both front and rear, more so in the rear. That is a good thing in the front, and not so much in the rear. I would also reccommend adding some fixed camber plates (Ireland eng) in the front for additional neg camber (-1.25 plus what you already have). This will not only give you more -camber but will provide additional protection for mushrooming on the front towers.
The rear is a different story. On a '04 you do not have any adjustability ('05 & '06 have a little). To correct this you will need a set of adjustable lower controll arms to bring the rear neg camber back (-1.3 to -1.5 is good for the street).

So I was looking at the Ireland Engineering website for control arms. It says that the mini has essentially 4 rear control arms. Does that mean I will need 2 pair of adjustable control arms instead of just 1?
you only need one set for the lower control arms to pull the camber back in. in all honesty, if you wanted to save the 200 bucks, with a one inch drop you aren't going to see a huge increase in camber wear as long as you keep rotating the tires.
