Adding 05+ Xenon Headlights to the GP?

Has anyone done it? I've search MINI2 and it seems there is a thread dedicated about it but a final answer was never resolved. It obviously can be done but I'm curious what's involved in the install. I remember reading in the forums that it is not a plug and play and required programming? There is a post on GPMINI http://gpmini.net/wp/2006/12/xenon_retrofit/ about the retrofit. But it doesn't list part numbers and just images of this cable harness. I also believe it is a two step install, the auto leveling system and HID cable harness itself. I'm wondering what's needed for the HID system first. I can worry about auto-leveling later.

If there's anyone that knows or can clarify, please let me know. Thanks!

I said screw it and just bought 9006 style hid bulbs/ballast and used the original housings. Works fine!

Pretty interesting that someone in your link referred to the upgrade as "value killing", and was concerned with the addition of 15 lbs to the car. If we were all honest, 95% are not driving our cars in a manner where 15lbs is going to make a HUGE difference. I just did the upgrade and if for no other reason, the light output is so much better. I bet they'd look killer on the GP. Here is what I found a while back, from member Burley:

Super old thread, but I keep getting asked the same question. What lights work w/out the CPU flash. Here are the results I've gathered from what everyone's chimed in and told me. These are all verified results. I've had a few friends get the 05+ xenons to work by getting a simple dealer CPU reprogram. It was easy and relatively cheap, but they're not really sure what was done to the CPU.

02-04 cooper w/ hals ----> 02-04 xenons ***YES
02-04 cooper w/ xenons ----> 05+ xenons ***YES
02-04 cooper w/ hals ----> 05+ xenons ****NO
05+ cooper w/ hals ----> 05+ xenons ****NO

No price listed here, but can check Tue. Says for R50 but diff could only be due to the kit coming out before the GP was manufactured.
