Various Annoying Electrical Issues (R53)

My 2003 Mini Cooper S hatchback (R53) has the following issues:

- windows don't work, but make a 'clunk' in the door when switch is moved
- door locks don't work, but make a 'clunk' in the door when switch is moved
- brake lights come on and stay on when ignition is switched on

The former service manager at my Mini dealer *suggested* that perhaps replacing the "Body Control Module" in the passenger-side footwell would cure these ills. Just did that - no joy.

Any ideas? Are these three issues actually related, or just coincidentally happening at the same time?

Is your battery is good condition? Low batteries can cause many electrical problems in the Minis.

Battery is a four year old Optima red top spiral-cell in fine condition.

Window problems were traced to corroded, shorted-out wires. So one down, two to go.
