2006 Mini Cooper questions

Hello all, i'm the proud owner of an 2006 mini cooper i bought used a couple months ago, it has 90k miles on it and i'm enjoying it.

I do have a few concerns though, the drivers window doesn't roll completely flush with the door, like the passenger side any suggestions ?

and there's a few rattling sounds, coming from the drivers door, and center console it seems to be the center columns below the radio to the floor, they seem to be made of plastic and maybe it's just a screw to tighten up ? any thoughts ?

Thanks David

Firrst step...
Closr the window , and keep holding the up switch for a full six seconds or so...
This will reinitialize the computer ro learn when to stop. Many window motors/regulators do fail....but letting it relearn the closed spot should help. As for the rattle....too tight or too loose is bad....eiyer can creak, but try it...also look for the rub spot....you might find it, and can add some chafe tape....3m medical tape from tge drug store works well......will stop the creak.

Reread ....if the window goes all the way up, but is not flush, sounds like more than the stopping point of the motor needs adjustment...so a bit harder to do...
Not sure how that adjustment is done....

The windows don't roll down flush with the door on any R50/53.
It is pretty flush at the back, but the further forwards you go on your sidewindows, you will find an increasing amount of mm gap between the top of the window and the top of the door (when window rolled down).

You can try tightening the screws on your dashboard, but it probably won't help. This is a common MINI problem. A dash of WD-40 here and there will probably cure your problem.

it's just with the window at the down position, it does roll up all the way, i still tired what you suggested and it still doesn't roll down flush like the passenger side, i wouldn't be questioning it if the passenger side was the same way, here's a picture of the driver's side down position, I'll try out the wd-40 for the center console hopefully in a few weeks (running tight on cash atm). there is a rattling / noise coming from somewhere in the drivers door or unless it's like the center console noise ? part of me wants to think maybe something is loose in there as well causing a blockage preventing the window from rolling completely down ?

The gap you are showing is completely normal to my knowledge.

The most likely reason for the door-rattle is the plastic items such as doorhandle and storagecompartment fitted to your door. Try provoking the sound by pushing the various plastic objects.

I've got an 06 r53 as well and what you're showing with the front of the window being above the door panel when rolled down is normal for both my driver and pass window.

As far as dash rattles, I've got a cup holder on my passenger down tube that I know rattles. Perhaps you could have a similar situation. Also, I've got very loose/broken off clips that roll around/rattle in my passenger door panel. If you have rattles behind the door and are mechanically capable, remove the door panels and drive around with someone to help listen/pin point where the noise is coming from. Then isolate the rattle with felt tape. WD-40 is messy and will only temporarily stop a squeak. Felt tape can be a cleaner more permanent cure for rubbing/rattling noises.

Squeaks from hinges/buckles/brackets would be perfect for wd40 though.

yes, my cup holder rattled no matter what... i tried to tighten it, loosen it, padding, foam tape... some things would work, but only for about a week or 2. I ended up just ditching the cup holder. No more squeaks, but now i have to hold my coffee in the morning :P

yes, the window thing is normal, both mine look just like that when down.

my doors rattle as well. cant figure out what exactly is causing it. I suspect i will have to tear it apart, and find the culprit... i suspect is is simply some plastic fitting or piece that has some slight give, causing rattling...
