Craven aftermarket dipstick owner?

IMPORTANT WARNING for users of the Craven aftermarket Dipstick!!!

I went to check my oil levels today...and when I was cleaning the dipstick before putting it back in for my first reading...the handle/head separated from the stick(coil)!!

I did not apply any pressure at all..it came apart with little to no effort!

I was LUCKY that it didn't come off when it was in the tube!!! Could you imagine?

I am contacting Craven about this...they have a good rep for making things right...but please be careful with yours.

Luckily I had the OEM handy...and its back in for now.

Within an hour from sending craven an email about it... they sent a shipment notification for the new one.

They also said, that on new batches they have redesigned the way it is all assembled so this shouldn't happen in the future.

Nice, but you have to worry about all the ones they've already sold. Yikes.

Ive read feedback on google somewhere that the new ones with the metal handles get extremely hot and people have burned themselves. Even on the site it says to use a rag to hold it. What bout the part that contacts the oil, is that on there good and tight? Just be careful.

$80,that is insane!
Not hard to read the stock one once the oil starts to turn color.

'12 hard to read dipstick

The Craven dipstick is advertized as working for all r56's '07 - '12. Why wouldn't a '08 dipstick work on an '12. I currently have a '12 and totally agree that the dipstick is hard to read. Could someone buy an '08 dipstick and use it on a '12?

This happened to me years ago when I was getting an oil change on the Gen1 I owned at the time. It took them quite a bit of work to get it out of the tube.
