Air Conditioning coldness on a hot day

I have a 11vert and it takes a while for the air to cool off the car after it sits out in the sun for a while. When i put my hands over the vent in blows fairly cold but not freezing cold. Do you think its normal cause its a vert?

Is the top down? Kidding!

I would guess that the thermal insulation of the convertible top is not as efficient as the hard top so, yes, it may take longer to cool down.

To monitor how well your AC is doing, I suggest getting a thermometer that you can place in the AC vent to monitor the T coming out of the vents. If the air T entering the car is OK, then your AC is doing its job.

For example:

The a/c should be able to lower the ambient temp at least 30 degrees.

Should freeze you out....
on my gen1, i set mine to max (ocerride the auto), then drive a block windows down to get the hot air out, then close it up....then put air to recirculate, and i can make my car beer cooler cold in 10 minutes.....cold enough to fog my glasses when i get out of the car!!

the dark colored dash top can really heat up and work against the a/c cooling things down. Consider a sun shade when parking in the sun. When I use mine it really helps as does popping the roof a crack to let the heat out at start-up.

When you set it to Max, it's in recirc, just FYI.....

The only thing you can do it use the recirc button, and yes, my Clubby is the same way. I used to park it in the shade with the windows cracked at work for a few hours before I drove hime, made a world of difference!

Best thing you can do is leave the windows open about 3" or so.

little trick to instantly cool down your car.

open your passenger side window.
open and close your drivers side door about 4-5 times, it will have sucked most of the hot air out of your car.

The fabric top is not insulated on our R57's. If car is sitting in sun it can take the AC a bit to cool down. If you have car parked in shade (or in garage) on day with same outdoor temp you will note that the car will cool down much faster. It seems that the heat coming through the fabric really makes the AC struggle. I don't believe MINI upsized the AC on the convertible.

The AC is adequate - but barely - with a sun baked R57 convertible. I hit the MAX button and it still takes a while!!

Yes, but if the interior has been closed up all day on a sunny hot day, you may have evacuated the air, but everything inside is still 160*, the best thing to do is not let it get that hot in the first place....if you can't park in the shade, opening the windows will mean it's only slightly hotter in there than ambient. 50* is a lot of heat to remove from the car interior.
