I think the new Veloster Turbo is a cool little car, but I'm doubtful it will live up too it's stated MPG. (38 highway?!)

After driving the regular Veloster I am not really even considering this in the same league. Yes it might be as fast in a straight line and get great gas mileage but, that is where the comparison ends. The back seats are more useless then the MINI because you head hits the roof and I am not that tall of a person and the thing handles like a hippopatomus. The price is right though for what you get which is going to be one of its major selling points compared to the MINI. Also this isn't the Hyundai of the past. In the last couple of years their quality has gone up a lot and they are starting to finally make decent cars. The only draw back is that the majority of people that buy one are buying it because it is cheap and they don't care about cars so they beat the ever living dog **** out of it till there is nothing but 4 tattered ties and no body panels left.

The Veloster doesn't have half the personality of a Mini, although the three doors is kind of cool and, let's face it, you can't knock a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Now that's confidence in your product.
My wife has a Mini and I'm looking at one, but one of the few things that scares me more than a Korean engine is a French one.

My buddy just traded his old Hyundai for a Justa(?) veloster. his old one was ragged and beat to hell but it did go 200k miles without any thing major breaking. and my girls mom has one with 160k miles no problems either. I'd agree that hyundais quality is getting better but they have always been dependable.

I like the Veloster but would never consider owning one. they are neat lookin but they do handle like poop...

My '99 Elantra beater-wagon with just under 100k miles looks and handles like crap, but powertrain-wise it just keeps on going and going -- which allows me to keep the routine around-the-town and bad weather miles off the MINI. The tranny is starting to get a bit balky though, so we'll see...

Kudos to Top Gear Korea for not letting their national pride get in the way of airing this race and showing the actual result. (I'll bet their show is more entertaining than the U.S. version.)
