03 MCS - 17s or 18s?

I am upgrading to bigger summer wheels/tires. I currently have stock 16s which I want to keep running in the winter. I really like the look of 18s but will the ride suffer a lot? 17s just don't seem to be that big of a jump from my 16s and don't visually stand out as nice. I am lowering the car 1.25 inches hopefully about the same time I put my new wheels/tires on. Could I have some advice/opinions? Also what shocks do you recommend with lowering springs? It is a daily driver and I don't race or anything so I don't need to go super fancy. What is the best and most cost effective?

Thanks very much!

With your moderate lowering, I would consider Koni FSD. Very comfortable ride, and effective increase in damping forces. H&R offers a nice choice in spring kits, but the lowering is more mild that what you mentioned. FSD works best will less lowering amounts.
