Best way to boost power in 07 Cooper S?
I can't find the exact answers to my questions so here is a new thread.
First I'd like to say I have been browsing here and it seems like a nice forum, think I'm going to enjoy it!!!
I plan on getting a 07 Cooper S auto around August or September. I test drove many cars and the Cooper S is by far the best. Mainly the handling, pretty quick to.
I have seen times online for 0-60 between 6.1 and 6.6. What do yall achieve on a stock S?
I love the car but deft want more power. I was told to check out alta and I did. I am looking to get the stage 3 kit which comes with a intercooler, a controller and turbo back exhaust. It claims 45-65 lb tq. gained and 35-45 WHP gained. Would 65tq and 45whp be possible with this? And I also planned on getting the intake which claims 10 more of both. Links below

For $2200 for that package... will get you an increase of around 40wtq/40whp imo... their numbers are usually inflated. Example, their intake says 10whp, you get anywhere from -2whp to +2whp, aka, no change. Also, you don't ADD hp numbers from different mods. Getting parts that add 10, 10, and 15 hp doesn't mean you get 35 hp from those 3 mods.
IMO you can get away with much cheaper... if you want the accessport (single most power gaining mod on the mini currently), thats 850? 900? Im not on their page. If you have until august look on the market place, they come up ALL the time for 650.
FMIC, for a quality new one from helix/forge, or if you want an alta one, will run you 750-800. If you look for a good condition used, will be 550-600.
Exhaust, you have many options. Their catback is known to drone, and is only a catback, leaving you with a restrictive cat still. You wont get to stage 3 with a stock dp. If you're fine with drone, save yourself the money and go custom and get an exhaust made for $350 or so, look for threads on that. Most aftermarket exhausts drone, from people's experiences, even when the seller says no drone sometimes. '
This setup puts you at $1500, leaving you $700 for suspension... shocks and springs, or swaybar and springs, etc.

Thanks a lot Erik!! Some great information, I usually prefer to pay a bit more on new parts hoping that they will last longer, and I know their history.
So what would you say is the best way to achieve 60whp/60wtq? So I guess I'll get the Pack 2 which is about $700 less, I'll take your advice on the exhaust. And that leaves money for tinted windows!

I hate to throw in a pinch of reality here, but just make sure your 50-100k mileage car is up to the task of handling that power increase. A few things need to be in good order before that...German cars do not age inexpensively. That said, just try to get a really good service history and hope for a good clutch!

A pre 2011 mustang gt usually has around 315hp and hits 60 around 5 seconds. From what I saw online a stock Cooper S hits 60 b/t 6.1 and 6.6, which is it?
So by adding 40whp/40wtq on a 2600lb car I think it could knock a second off. And I WANT the Mini cause of it's handling abilities, but it never hurts to add power and show some American cars that Minis are all around fast!

My car is an 09 Cooper S with Alta/Cobb AP, Alta inlet tube, and Alta catback. Even with my fatass (225, and my buddy who is 6'8 at about 260lbs), we walked away from the Mustang pretty easily.
Granted, any scenario like this has variables, and I'm sure could have very easily gone the other way at a drag strip or with better drivers.

Not sure if this helps you or not, but I had a friendly little go with a buddy of mine the other day on a clear open 4 lane road. He has a 2011 Mustang V6 (the 305 hp newer version) 6 speed.
My car is an 09 Cooper S with Alta/Cobb AP, Alta inlet tube, and Alta catback. Even with my fatass (225, and my buddy who is 6'8 at about 260lbs), we walked away from the Mustang pretty easily.

My JCW would run with srt8's and mustangs 5.0's but I went way beyond a ap and bolt ons.
Sounds good to me!! Haha. Cause those new V6 are almost as quick as older GTs. So you pretty much added all I want to except the Alta intercooler? Does the mini feel a good bit quicker? I'm not looking for a rocket ship bit would like to walk from a Stang and get a 0-60 time in about 5 seconds. Thanks
