R50/53 dealer markup/lead time
I went in to the Dallas Mini dealership and they said the delivery for a Cooper S is mid-June '03 unless you want to pay and extra $2k, then it would be about January '03. Is this about the same lead times most people are experiencing?

This may be the case for the Dallas dealership as they are likely using up their allotments to build up stock, but you can do better if you are willing to travel. Take a look at the Dealer Rating System and you will find many dealers selling at MSRP and having shorter waits.
I live in Houston and I just put my name and deposit on a waiting list for a MCS with Road Show MINI in Memphis last week and the price is MSRP. The only reason I am on the waiting list is because I am waiting for one of the 2003 MCS's with the Harmon Kardon stereo system. If you don't require that, they can order one for you now.
I will either get my MINI at the end of February or end of March.

If you are willing to pay any kind of markup, I suggest you call around to dealers in other states that sell only at MSRP -check the dealer rating system- you could probably find just what you are looking for, use the money to buy a plane ticket and pay for the gas/tolls to drive you new MINI home. Let the greedy bastard dealers sit on their inventory and the practice of charging markups will soon die.

Did you by chance check out that new Mini dealership in Houston, Momentum Mini? I was down there on business a couple of weeks agao and drove by. All they had a was a used yellow Mini. Just curious what your experience with them was (if you checked with them).

I stopped by Momentum and they are expecting cars next month. However, they have developed a plan by which you get a tire protection warranty (?), service loaner car, and some other snake oil and they are charging nearly 3,000 dollars over MSRP. They'll probably negotiate some of that, but why bother when you can order from a dealer for MSRP. I, too live in Dallas and have a car ordered at Roadshow in Memphis. My salesperson, Dorian has been very helpful and my MCS is due next month. John Roberts MINI in Dallas is doing exactly what an earlier poster said and calling it some market price adjustment or something - I called it price gouging and laughed and left the dealership.
Oh yeah, I forgot to say in my earlier response. Baton Rouge sells for MSRP with no required options.

I gave Cincinnati MINI $1000 deposit in September and they will actually place the order for my S in March, with a May/June delivery date.
