JCW Aero Kit questions
So I originally posted this question 2 days ago in the General Forum on an old thread about Aero Kits, but no one has replied to that, so I firgured I'd try someplace with a little more traffic.
I have a question about the JCW Aero Kits that I've done searches on, but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Specifically...is there any actual difference between the Aero Kit that is included in the $2000 JCW Package and the one you get in the stand alone JCW Aero Kit that is available as a $2182 option?
I know the configurer on MiniUSA is pretty buggy (like how you can include the optional Aero Kit on a car that already has the JCW Package added or even on a Factory JCW!
), but there don't appear to be any visual differences between the two kits in the configuror other than the grille trim changing from chrome to black when you select the optional stand alone kit (although I really hope that is the case with the JCW Package as well because I much prefer the black trim).
I realize that there is a lot less cost involved in putting the kit (and all the other options) on at the factory as opposed to having to paint it and install it at the VDC or dealer, but it still seems pretty crazy that just the Aero Kit costs more (plus installation?) than everything you get with the JCW Package.
Anyhow, if anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it so I know what to expect when my MCS arrives. Thanks!

You're spot on in terms of the black grill trim surrounds; the accessories John Cooper Works Aero Kit (@ $2812) includes those along with:
- front and rear apron, side skirts, grille sill skirts, bonnet grille, upper and lower bumper grilles and license plate carrier.
The 'John Cooper Works' appearance package (in sub-group packages @ $2000), doesn't provide the grill (different mesh), and the black grill surrounds.
However, you get the door sills, the 17" Challenge wheels, and the JCW red stitching (steering wheel, manual shift boot, and e-brake handle).
Now, if you're wanting a entry-level 'S'-model, the package gives a lot of value right off the bat with NO other packages selected.
However, the moment you add the Cooper Works package, the Sports package is unavailable which has other specific options.
On the 'S'-model, the multifunction steering wheel is standard, so that's an item you're already getting that's been bundled into a package = wasted money.

bluefox...thanks for replying...and for confirming most of what I thought. I'm a little bummed about the black trim, but that's something I can take care of down the road is I really want to.
I went back and forth between adding the Sport package or the JCW package for a long time. I really wanted black wheels...specifically the web spokes...and the Sport package includes the bonnet stripes, xenons and wht turn signals which I ended up adding. But in the end it came down to both packages give you DTS & 17" wheels, and I really like the way the aero package and the red stitching sets it apart from a standard 'S'. And building one with all the same options I choose, but with the Sport package and the aero kit would have ended up costing $1200 more...and basically all I'm really getting is the different grille & trim?
It is odd that they add the multifunction steering wheel as part of the JCW package since I think it's standard even on the Justa.
Regardless, I know I'll be happy with it...once it finally gets here!

* Xenon headlights ($500)
* White turn signals ($100)
* 17" Conical Spokes ($750)
* Bonnet Stripes ($100)
Total = $1450 value
So, really, it looks like you're breaking even; assuming you wanted those choices to begin with.

I get the value of the Sport package...it seems like pretty much every package is designed to save around $500 off what the options would individually be...and I did want everything that comes with it. I guess the angle I was looking at it from was if I take all the options that I would have ordered in either case, and that were not included in either package, out of the equation what it comes down to is:
Option A
+Sport package $1750 (w/ blk web spoke wheels)
includes: bonnet stripes/wht turn signals/xenon lights
+JCW Aero Kit $2184
Total additional cost - $3834
Option B
+JCW Package $2000
+Bonnet Stripe $100
+White Turn Signals $100
+Xenon Lights $500
Total additional cost - $2700
Without the Web Spokes it would be $500 closer, but again, I like to think I'm still getting a better value with the additional interior trim of the JCW Package.

If it were me, I'd try to find that steering wheel and feel it. It's the same hard POS as a regular Mini, but with red stirching. The JCW Alcantara/leather or just the leather wheel is WAY better. Much softer on the hands.
As for the rest of the question, here's my take.
Buy the car you want. Then install the body kit. The only part I really like are the side skirts anyway...lol

Here's something else to consider......The stand alone JCW Aero Kit doesn't include paint or installation. Also, if you're thinking about leasing, the JCW Aero Kit is considered an accessory, and it doesn't residualize. Aside from the other items that you mentioned in the JCW package, you also get the E-Diff locker thing(DTC). lol It's just another level of traction control, and that is a $250 option by itself. It also clearly states a black grille with a black grill surround. It's also interesting to note that the only way to get the 17" Challenge Spoke wheels is with the JCW Package, or by ordering a factory JCW car. Or, you can buy them for $332+ a wheel.

The only thing that I was really bummed about was that you can only get the black Challenge spokes on a factory JCW. And actually, unless I'm missing something, the only black wheels that are available with the JCW Package are optional 18" wheels costing additional $3K.
Again...another thing to do down the road if I really want to.
I know, right? That was what was confusing me. But I think maybe they are referring to the lower part of the front apron, because it continues "that blend seamlessly with the black wheel arches".
