Yea that sucks. I guess mini's peronalization stops just before more performance with the countryman Back to relying on aftermarket companies.

Yeah, this is very dissappointing. Maybe when the Countryman Coupe gets here they will make a JCW performance kit that will retro to the 4 door.

Oh no - that is what I've been waiting for! My MA just told me a couple days ago that it would be available in a few months! What a huge bummer!

maybe this will make you feel better? and it works via the sport button, sport mode off = factory tune sport mode on = renntech tune

$945 and you have to send in your ecu

RENNtech Tuning Now Available for Mini Cooper- Mark1 & 2!

January 19th, 2012 RENNtech is pleased to announce that we now offer ECU upgrades for Mark 1 (2006-2010) and Mark 2 (2010-up) Mini Coopers. Our proprietary ECU tuning software was developed in house along side our BMW Tuning program and offers significant gains in performance for both the “S” and John Cooper Works (JCW) version Mini’s making an additional 45 HP and 40 lb/ft at the crank!
By modifying ignition timing and throttle mapping, optimizing air/ fuel ratios, increasing the top speed limiter and modifying boost mapping for turbo charged vehicles; our performance software will unleashes your Mini’s true potential without sacrificing daily driver reliability. On Mark 2 Mini’s, our ECU tune can be activated with the sport button allowing you to turn up the wick anytime via the push of a button.
Paired with an Akrapovic Evolution Exhaust system and optional down pipe for an additional gain of 8 Hp and 10 lb/ft your Mini will be small in size, but huge in performance!

Yep, there are a few Tuners offering a tune for the CMS. Problem is, you either have to live in the location where the tuner is, or travel to the tuners location, or pull your ECU and ship it to them. Personally none of the above work for me! :(

Let's hope this is not accurate news... Maybe they will bring out a different upgrade and call it something else... Like Mini Performance or something

.

Yea, but then you take your car the mini dealer for general service and they upgrade your software which erases the tune. Now your out $945, or you have to remove and ship the ecu off again. No thanksO

I'd be perfectly happy with a JCW ECU remap, intake, and exhaust - I know it wouldn't be a crazy performance boost, but the warranty is what I'm most concerned about. Do you think that is still a possibility?

It's not out of the question, they're just not offering it this year. Next year, who knows? I guess bottom line is, we need to let MINI know that there is demand for this kind of thing. I've already voiced my interest on a kit like this to my dealer.

you can tell them to not flash the ecu so you dont have loose the work done on it and most tuners will re flash for free once or two times.

That is bad news indeed. Guess MINI wants us to pony up the extra $$$$ for the JCW car.

Too bad they couldn't shoehorn in the new 328 turbo engine.

I had Lenny from RENNtech tune my car back in February when I drove down to Florida from Connecticut. Since then, I had added some more bolt on parts so I sent the ECU down to Florida to be retuned, all worked perfectly. When I take my MINI into the dealer I just tell them not to even come close to touching the ECU and they understand and are pretty cool about it.

In short, this tune is worth every bit of the money. Even though mine was done at PAW in Miami, it was still a RENNtech tune. Lenny drove down to the shop to tune my car and is using the same tune I have on my ALL4 for all RENNtech ECU reflashes. (It was important that he did because I was the 1st ALL4 to be tuned)

One last point - The tune doesn't push the engine as far as they could. They were saying they could extract WAY more power out of these engines, but could risk blowing them if they did so. Therefore, I feel pretty comfortable driving my car pretty hard and not having to worry about breaking anything in the engine or drivetrain.

Hope this helps

Kyle

The JCW tune provides only a sight bump in HP to 189 and torque to 185. That is not much considering the $2500 cost. An aftermarket intake and exhaust will give you the same for much less.

Forgot to mention... I gained 30hp and roughly 50lb/ft of torque with my tune.

The intake and exhaust with downpope added no power whatsoever... That is Dyno proven on the same day with same weather conditions with 3 pulls before and after the boltons.

I do.. Normally I keep sport off just because the popping and burbling sounds like gunshots with my exhaust and around town I think the police would stop me :P but once I hit a backroad and get to the twisties sport makes quite a bit of difference. The car was underpowered without the tune, now it's properly powered
