That is correct for the N-18 engines (double Vanos).
NM engineering supposedly has a tune out. and double vanos is variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves.
NM Engineering can do it, but you must send the ECU to them , unless you live near them. RMW also does it but the same criteria apply.
I personally would only do it if there was no warranty and the car was sitting on the dyno when it was being Tuned by either place.

i live within 10mins from rmw and 45mins from nm, but i'm still a bit hesitant to do either right now since i'm still in warranty.
What do you know about AutoLogic's programming? Their website says they do have the capability for doing BMW as well as MINI's. I just haven't heard much about their setup.
I'm dying to buy an AP! Just a few more pennies and I'm onboard!

Agreed! I haven't heard enough (or anything concrete for that matter) about the NM tune to have an opinion and I've been reading some less than stellar news about RMW's tune/customer service as of late. This is all second hand news from NAM threads so take that for what it's worth. When it comes to my ECU I want nothing but concrete good reviews before I take a chance like that. It's too bad the AP isn't gonna be N18 compatible but I guess there is a bright spot in my buying a pre N18 JCW.

PAW Motorsports in south Florida flashes the N18 ECUs We had a 2012 countryman at my shop. That made 210whp 225wtq on a mustang dyno with an akropovic DP cat-back and intake. For those that dont know Mustang dynos in AWD read 18-20% lower than a dynojet. Pretty good gains. the map couldve stood to have some more work put into it to make it perfect but overall it was good...
Rather go with a personal tune and dyno than an AP any day.
I'm sure in time we'll have more options.
We have to remember that the vast majority of Mini's out on the street are NOT n18's.....yet,
so as a business, it wouldn't make sense to spend money on R&D for the minority as of now.
It all comes down to money/profit.

The Company that Cobb got the code to be able to tune through the OBD port has not developed code to tune the 2011+ through the OBD. Therefore until they make it Cobb won't have it, then Cobb will reverse engineer it and make the 2011+ AP. But I know for a fact that the company really isn't focused on the new MINI so it's going to be awhile before the have it.

Exactly, which is why I'm happy I own a 2012 JCW, at least where tuning is concerned. I'd prefer a good dyno tune and I may go that route at some point since my nephew and his shop can do it but until it's out of warranty I doubt I will. That's why I like the idea of the AP. While their maps seem more conservative than other ECU tuners at least you don't have to worry about warranty's and such and maps can be made specific for your equipment.
There are tuners who will do a custom dyno tune with an Access Port.

Cobb is busy with their BMW and Subaru customers, MINI is probability their lowest priority. A lot more people tune BMW and Subaru, so it make sense for a company to spend more R&D in a market that makes more money for them.
