Black Roof + Warm Climate = bad idea?

Curious as to how many warm climate MINI owners avoided a black roof on their car for fear of a warmer interior, or how many own a black roof MINI and don't notice any difference? Thanks

Mine's black and I really don't notice it that much. I'm sure it is hotter but tolerable. When I'm not driving it I keep it under a double metal carport and it has trees around it as well so it keeps pretty cool.
Don't know what other top color on a Sparkling Silver would look good??

Color of the car has little effect on how hot the interior gets. Same goes for window tint. Lighter color and tint help a little, but for max effect, you need to leave the windows down, sunroof cracked. The one benefit of tint is it slows down the heating and protects the interior a little better.

I have a black roof on mine and think I do ok in the Phoenix sun. I don't have a non-black to compare to, but the A/C keeps me cool.

Mine is black, but previous car was white, they seem the same to me. I use a sun shield to keep sun direct rays from hitting dash and seats, also tinted windows. I say get the color that you want and enjoy the ride.

My husband and I each have a white roof. We just got our MINI's tinted as dark as possible without being illegal as well, so that helps a lot. I have a sun roof, so that was tinted limo lol. We both contemplated for a long time whether or not to paint our roofs black, seeing as we like our car colors better with the black over the white. But we were each talked out of it, cuz we were told it would just make our interiors hotter (especially mine, cuz of the sunroof). I have covered parking at work, and I crack my windows, as well as put up a sun shade for those 8 hours. So when I leave, it's really not that bad (yet). But I also have the leatherette seats, so that kinda takes away from the comfort :/
After having been in my husband's car yesterday in the 104 degree heat, I can definitely tell how much more comfy his interior is in the heat lol (he has regular cloth).

Anyway, you do what you want! It's always something that can be changed (though I'm not sure how easy that would be!).

My 2 cents......... we live in Arizona, makes no difference when it gets over 90 degrees!

In my case, previous car had white roof, no sunroof. Trigger is black, with giant solar collector, added tint when purchased. I'm sure it will get hotter.

We avoided the black roof for a while because of concerns like this. Then we got a black roofed MINI to go with the white roofed one. I don't notice a difference between then in the California sunshine.

I have had 2 MINIs now, the '09 with the black root and sunroof has tinted windows and sunroof panels was exponentially cooler than the white roof on the R50 and no sunroof. I could just never get as cool in the R50 as I could in my current R56. Color doesn't change the temp inside IMO.

Also in Texas with black roof and sunroof and neither make any negiligible difference. Hot is hot any way you look at it and I wouldn't make a decision on my car color based on something so insignificant.

Pick what you like, the color and sunroof option will make no difference....

...another TX MINI here, with a black roof.

I often wonder if a white roof would make a difference.

...would be nice to see some actual comparisons, ..mythbusters style.

got me wondering now, ..gonna search a bit and see if there is any real documented evidence.

Honestly, I have a silver roof and no moonroof and my car still gets hot as heck during the day basting away in the sun! My wife had a EB/White roofed R53 and it has 20% tint all around, this did help tremendously in my opinion. I am going to have mine tinted and put a MINI sunshade in the front and see what happens. In general though, if it is 100 degrees outside and your car sits in it all day, it will be hot regardless.
