Union Jack appropriate for the Countryman?

Wouldn't the Austrian flag be more accurate on the Countryman, since that is where it is made? Is the Union Jack just a tribute to the original Mini Cooper?

Yes. A previously British car name now owned by a German company with a French engine...

Yes, it's a tribute. No, an Austrian flag wouldn't really make sense. Unless you did it for some reason other than where the vehicle was put together. Because very few would 'get' it, and (IMO) wouldn't agree.

But, hey, it's your car.

Haha, I'm not going to put an Austrian flag on my car. But I wouldn't put a British one on it either!

Perhaps you may have heard that a Countryman won the 2012 Dakar rally, so you might consider a Senegalese flag, as Dakar is, of course, in Senegal... but it turns out that the Dakar has been run in South America since '08, which brings us to Argentina, Chile or perhaps Peru. The driver was French though...

Can we just settle for the checkered flag?

Or just get grill badges from ALL those countries! I hope people realize my initial post was made in jest, I don't really foresee anyone putting thenAustrian flag on their car.

Why not a layout of the earth on the roof and then every country is represented.

My husband and kids are English so I felt it was appropriate to put the Union Jack on my car. My kids have dual citizenship and I am American.

I'm intensely patriotic, and my son was born on the 4th of July, so I had an American flag on the roof of my '03 hardtop. A few people used to ask why I had an American flag on a British car, and my explanation usually ended it. Some would press the issue, saying that if I was so patriotic, I should have bought an American car. I explained to them that the owner of the dealership was American, the dealer was American, the service employees were American, so I was in fact supporting American workers.

MCJoe, I wanted the roof graphic from Cooper Flags for my car, where the American flag morphs into a Union Jack, waving. It's really great, and reflects my feelings... an American of British ancestry, proud to drive a British car, from an American dealership as you say... :-) (mine is a base Cooper, not a CM) But Cooper Flags never answered my calls and emails, so I went with a UJ, and get compliments all of the time!! Yes, the OP was joking, or at least tongue in cheek, but really we can put anything we want on our babies and have our own reasons, and they are all valid because it is our choice!!

I have the Black Jack sunroof graphic on mine. Always liked the look of that.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I drive an MCS while the fiancee drives the Countryman All4. The Black Jack is on my car, not hers. But she likes it, too.

I like the blackjack and not really for any other reason than I like the way it looks on my SB CMS.

I was born in England and I'm still here some 28 years later on a green card. My eldest son used to carry both UK and US passports, but gave up the UK passport to join the US Air Force. He actually graduates BMT in Lackland, TX next week.

I was originally going to go with the rear English flag wrap from minimotoringgraphics.com but had second thoughts when they pulled the 20% discount that was listed if you ordered using the discount code from this site. I 86'd that plan completely when another Countryman owner ordered that same graphic and the installer who minimotoringgraphics insisted install it totally butchered the job. It has apparently since been removed and last I heard minimotoringgraphics was not standing behind the work of their authorized installer. The installer left a lot of marks on the paint and rubber parts of the Mini involved. Makes me shudder at the thought.

I switched to Graham at minigraphics in the UK who after taking my credit card disappeared from sight (for me anyway). He took my order on 4/19, shipped express on 5/1 and no sign of any package or tracking number after asking multiple times on email and by phone. He apparently is responding to other people.

I am now back at the dealer begging for a discount on JCW stripes. I have seen the work and they do a great job. I will probably end up putting some kind of Union Jack on the car somewhere ;-)

According to Wikipedia, all current MINI gasoline engines are assembled in the UK:

"All Prince four-cylinder petrol engines for Mini and BMW are produced at the Hams Hall Plant[61] near Birmingham, United Kingdom, which has around 800 employees.[62] Diesel engines are manufactured by BMW's Plant Steyr in Austria, having previously been manufactured in France and England by PSA."

So our cars may be assembled in Austria, but the engines on all US Minis are put together in Birmingham. In honor of that and the half of my family that emigrated from the UK 100 years ago, I put a UK flag antenna ball on Chunky...

I guess it's time for that Wikipedia entry to be corrected. The disclosure sheet that came with my CM4 says
Country of Origin:
Engine: France

The blocks and crankshafts are cast in France; the cylinder head, machining, and assembly of the engine for Minis is at Hamms Hall:

I just want a primarily white graphic (or cream) with the sunroof pre-cut for my CM. I have a black roof, and it makes the car way too hot. That said, I couldn't do a blackjack or union jack on the roof of my CM, I'm not english, it's austrian, and it wouldn't look right with oxford green and cream.
