Need to replace rear brake pad sensor

Hi, new owner here. Just bought an '05 Cooper HT base.

The dealership says they replaced the rear brake pads when they got the car in, but they didn't do the brake pad sensor. I guess that's what happens when you buy a used Mini from a Ford dealership.

So... I got online, found PartsGeek, com and ordered OEM sensors for both the Rear and the Front. Both are supposedly for the '05 Cooper.

Got my rear tire off, found the old sensor and detached it from the brake. Lo and behold, the old sensor looks COMPLETELY different than the new one... so much so, that I wouldn't have a clue how in the world to install the new one.

I have attached pictures of both the old and the new.

First question: Did PartsGeek.com send me the wrong part???
Second Question: If not, how in the world do I install the new one?
Third question: If so, where can I find the right part??

Thanks for your help!

I believe that the first pic show a wheel speed sensor. The second pic show the brake wear sensor. They mount in different locations. There are only two brake wear sensors. Only the Left front and right rear have brake wear sensors. I believe all four wheels have speed sensors.

bother

Oh Good Gravy! I am a complete idiot!

I had read that the rear sensor was on "the driver's side",,, so I assumed, since the world revolves around the U.S., it was on the left. Never occurred to me that I might have been reading a UK description.

I had the LEFT rear tire off, and since the speed sensor cable kinda looks like the brake pad sensor cable, I naturally thought I was looking at the correct part.

Duh.

QUESTION: Can I replace the brake pad sensor WITHOUT taking apart the brake pad assembly??

Pretty sure you can. The end of the sensor just snaps into the back center of the outside pad. You will need to remove the wheel to find the other end of cable to attach. Good luck

Not at all. You are taking matters into your own hands, and making the repair yourself. Take the money you saved by not paying someone, and get yourself a service manual. It will serve you well down the road.
