Well,
I have been lurking on the boards for a while and finally came up with a question. Most of the mileage threads talk about getting 280 mile per tank. I can only seem to get 210. Maybe this is why

Ride to work

and

Ride home

Comments please

You drive like my dog eats - FAST. Looks like fun, but are there no cops where you live?
Where is this, Elbownia?

THANK YOU!!! I would bow down and praise all that is holy if people got out of the left lane like that in Jersey. OK, repeat after me, "Left lane is for passing only"

Lots of polizei here. But this stretch of road is an unrestricted part of Autobahn 62.

Man, that looked like fun. My favorite part is how everybody is getting out of your way!

I've been trying since the thread started yesterday and still cannot get the links to work. I keep getting the 999 Yahoo error saying the page is currently unavailable.

I am sorry about the Geocities , seems I should look for a better service. Maybe I can convince Mark to host them.

Why oh why can't "interstate highway" equal "autobahn"?

A62? Doesn't that run between Frankfurt and Kaiserlautern? Where do you work in Germany ... spent 3 years there myself. Only greater thrill than the A roads were the B roads ... woohoo! Thanks for the memories!

Cheers

Finally got to watch both videos ... was that a double shift down on the exit ramp going home? Sweet ... really brings back some memories. Sooooo frustrating driving the Interstate system here. We Americans can still learn a lot about driving quickly and safely.

Thanks again!

Ok, I upgraded my service, we'll see how long it lasts . A62 runs N-S from Pirmasens to Trier. I am headed back stateside in May, so I must document it all...

Oh and Nurburgring is next week . More vids to follow.

Bingo! I lived off of A-62 in a small village called Hettenhausen, just a bit south of A6. Shoot me an email off line ... would love to talk more about the region.
Cheers

Thanks! Got to see it this time. Gotta love smooth streets where you can let the MINI stretch it's legs.

Germans are pretty good about smooth autobahns. They will really restrict the speed if there are any bumps at all.

Wow. What an awesome drive. I don't know if american drivers will ever understand the left lane idea.

Something scares me about this though.. especially if it were in america. Soccer moms doing 120+ in a huge SUV, talking on the mobile while their childern scream in the back seat. It's asking for disaster.

Can anyone say natural selection?

Didn't know you were in Germany, but recognized it immediately in the first video.

Very few SUV's in Germany. Germans take their driving very seriously. It is expensive and takes more time to get a license in Germany than here in America. Our licensing requirements are a joke!

I drive a Cooper 50 miles round trip, two weeks ago I got 34.5 mpg, that works out to just over 450 miles per tank. Yes that week I took it easy, but when I don't and really deceide to have fun, my mpg drops to 29 and I only get 380 miles out of a tank. I don't have an "S", but the facts is facts.

I drive a MCS
re- chipped, 15% pulley, exhaust, etc...

My commute is currently 32 miles each way....
and 31 miles each way is H'way driving.

I average approx 26-30 mpg.(according to the OB computer)
Since I live on LI....my speed varies from 5 mph to approx 85mph.

I have no complaints re: my gas mileage...

Dunno why yours is so low ?????

Peace,
D

Great video by the way. Reminds me of driving the small part of I-495 just outside of Philadelphia.

How many miles did you cover in that 2:36 minutes on the way to work?

I agree, american drivers need to learn to not lolly-gag in the left hand lanes!
