Drivetrain ClutchMasters FX100 Review
ClutchMasters FX100 Review
so jsut like many people on NAM my clutch failed at 42k miles, wasnt a big suprise to me as i was the second owner and fairly new at driving stick. This was my first car that was stick however i have years of experience on atv and motorcycles. I purchased my car with about 28k miles so i got a good run out of the clutch considering i drive my car fairly hard.
So my mods are:
alta turbo back exhaust
M7 ags-R intake
alta bov spring
alta hot side boost tube
nm cold side
helix FMIC
alta AP stage 3 92+ octane
know i knew that there were many clutch issues with the stock clutch and they have been failing for everyone so i didnt want to leave it up to chance with another OEM unit since im sure with my mods i have more tourque than the clutch can handle or very close to its limit.
OS giken was an option but it was very expensive and this is my daily drive and was scared off by its aggressive on/off nature, my mechanic recommended the clutchmasters and i figured it cant be worse than the OEM so i ordered it and in it went.
well its been 200 miles and so far i am pretty happy with it. the first couple of miles it was very on/off which i wasnt happy about but as time goes on and the friction material breaks in its becoming much smoother.
as for the light weight flywheel i noticed a few things. Yes acceleration is a little bit better, there is some chatter at idle but nothing crazy, ytou almost cant hear it over the exhaust and radio, and the hardest part of getting used to is the clutch doesnt engage until about 1800 rmps to make a smooth transition into first gear. it did take some time getting used to but all in all i think this was a good choice provided it doesnt fail prematurley.
well i only have 200 miles on it and still driving like a granny to beak it in for the suggested 500 mile period, and i will wirte bacvk with more information after i get a chance to do some "spirited" driving.
i know theres little information about cluthes for the r56 so i hope this helps others !

I had run into this dilemma about an aftermarket clutch for the mini as well.
With research, I found that CM says to only expect anywhere from 30-45k miles only on their clutches... this had me blown away as I do 20k miles a year.
Also, with your mods, is there a reason you didn't go with the FX200 or 300 even?
I was looking at the 300... and I have similar mods as you.

i have heard of CM not expecting too long from thier clutches but as of now with all the other options out there it fits right into the accepted windown, OEM clutches are failing anywhere from 10k - 50k , the os giken is supposed to be a a very tough racing clutch but still people have slipping issues after 12k miles
as for why i picked the fx100 , my mechanic actually spoke to clutchmasters and they said that anything more than the fx100 would just be overkill , plus the fx100 was cheaper and i was running so tight for money cause my car had already been down for two weeks so i could save some money

FX100 clutchmasters
i put this clutch in my car nearly 7k miles ago and it has begun slipping very badly. so i am sending it back and hopefully get my warranty paid in full. i would not suggest going with this clutch. maybe the fx200 with the kevlar and the longer life span.

Looks like Way Motors finally updated their website...

I would like to add that this thread was from 2012, and I feel like ClutchMasters have updated their products to be more reliable. I have had my FX100 kit with steel flywheel installed to my Stage 2 R55 for almost 80k miles, and have not had so much as a hiccup from it. No slipping, no noises, stock feel. And I don't always go easy on it...

DT also said to always replace flywheel even if it looks to be in great shape.
