Gack!...curse of the "cute car", first time with my MINI
"So there I was", waiting to make a left into a long string of traffic, when it happened: a nice, 20-something girl in a Camry held up, and waved me into the line.
What's the problem? Her expression...oh yes, the dreaded "Aww...isn't that a cute car!" smile, the same way she might look at a new puppy, or a just-selected outfit for a new baby nephew.
Dang it. I knew I shoulda ordered menacing all-black. "Baby blue" with checkers is just asking for it.
Sign me...Grimacing in St. Louis (who's local dealer's MA advised me, *that* "C" word is banned in their shop. MINI's are "cool", not "cute").

I get it too. Every time I go to the gas station I get that "oh how cute!" smile. Then they see me (300lbs 6') and ask "uhh.......how is your gas mileage?" I figure most people are thinking "how the hell did he get in there?" but are just too nice to say it to a stranger.
Sooo, this cute(?) 20 something chick goes all puppy dog over your MINI and you cop an attitude worrying about your choice of paint and just let her drive away?

.I'd already had to factor in that it was my "adorable" MINI drawing the attention, not my personal magnetism or whatever remains of it. But your point's well-made, like taking an actual puppy to the park as "bait". Borrowed, if need be
HA HA HA HA you're too funny! Most guys... regardless of age, marital status, or machismo... are okay with a 20 something admiring their car. You can paint it black, joey mod it, plasti-dip everything with the least bit of shine to it, and get a different reaction... but it's getting the reaction that counts.
*** YOU *** know that you have more than cute under the hood.... bask in that knowledge, and let the twenty somethings squeal!

Well considering that the last study that came out a couple of days ago about which genders by what cars stated that something like 46-48% of people purchasing cars are women. So the *cute* is kind of justified from a women's stand point. I just don't care what anyone says anymore other than the whole "you must be gay becuase you drive a MINI". That is where I draw the line. I hate(and I use it strongly here) people that are like that.
LOL...my situation is that I'd best leave the 20-somethings to those still in the market, I've already been served

I am happy if a 20-something calls my car "cute". Especially if she's nice to look at. Even though I can look but not touch, and I'm a gray-haired geezer.
If they like my car, and I like my car, everything is fine.

I sort of had the same thing happen. I put 2 pieces of 8 foot long trim molding in my mini. The lady getting out of the car next to me just started laughing. She said " I didn't think you would get that in that little car." I told her "it's tiny but there is still a lot of room inside." She just smiled and said "it's a nice little car." I got a big kick out of that.

Even being a female who drives a MINI, I REALLY hate when people call my car cute. I drove a Mazda3 hatch before this car, and my mom called it cute from day 1 :/ Even though I had several mods done to it to make it more beefy than cute! It annoyed the heck outta me! Then when I pulled up in the MINI, she did it again, and so did my sisters (they don't know a thing about cars). I may drive a car that girls would think is "cute", but I ain't drivin' it just cuz it's "cute", much like a regular girl would be driving a Yaris or some weird thing like that. I like to think of my MINI as small, but "hey! watch out!"
Ive experienced that too, I was at a gas station and a car full of girls pulled into the pump next to me and all of their faces lit up. I was hoping it was at me but it was the car. Luckily as I was pulling out one of the girls did the "call me" sign to me. Even with my car mostly blacked out I like to think its mean, but It can be a positive cute at times lol
That gave me an idea, we're looking for a plate for our new JCW. "CUTE" is taken, but "CUTE JCW" is available in California. The wife isn't going for that idea though.
