I'm thinking of buying front mud flaps too. How hard are they to install?

There are several threads that explain how to install the MINI mud flaps...

It's not difficult, just takes a little time.

I don't know about mud flaps installed in front of the front wheel...there is an air dam on each side there...

Something at that location wouldn't be a mud flap.

Do you mean item #8 in this diagram: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...58&hg=51&fg=15

Or from the photo gallery ghamma linked to:

If the part is missing, it will be covered under warranty.

My passenger side has almost been ripped off after an encounter with a fairly nasty pothole!

For my CM4 and the R56 I had before it I never seem to be able to keep the front mud flap intact. Whether it's a pothole, curb, anything that thing winds up ripping/breaking. So, I've removed them completely and left them off.

These are air deflectors designed to reduce drag by directing airflow away from the suspension & wheel well area. They are flexible but I suspect that a hard hit might knock one off.

It's in the link in my post, looks to be part# 51119802644. ECS Tuning sells it for $8.64 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/51119802644/). If it looks like it was missing since new (no evidence that it ripped off from hitting something), I would have the dealer take care of it for free under warranty during your next visit.
