R60 1st Year Service
1st Year Service
I just returned from taking my 2011 CMS All 4 for its 1st annual checkup. Had a very pleasant experience with the dealership (Dreyer & Reinbold in Indianapolis), they listened to my concerns and didn't shrug me off like I didn't know what I was talking about (since I'm a woman driver). Since I had been experiencing the hesitation I asked them to check that out and I've also been hearing a whurring noise from back left quarter. Fortunately for me, they test drove the car and they were able to verify "hesitation" complaint, so they re-programmed car per SIM 12 02 I1. (Thanks to whomever posted this on an earlier post, because I used that post as my backup). Re-flash has seemed to correct the problem, but I didn't have a need to stop and go again on my 155 mile trip back home. Now as far as the noise - it is coming from "abnormaly" worn tires (only 12,800 miles on them). They are the stock Perreli's - anyone else having problems with worn tires? Overall, I was very pleased with my service - This dealership is a "keeper"!

Sounds like you did just right. Since the majority of MINI drivers are not men, I hope the dealer service departments have enough sense to show respect for their most important customers. I'm hoping my tires show similiar early wear so I can improve them.
Yes they were - this is my 4th MINI and the worst tire wear.
If you think Minis have it tough on tires, you should take a look at the complaints BMW get for their run flat tires AND the wheels for the 5 series. It is almost mandatory to take out wheel insurance. The good news is that the tire manufacturers warranty the tires (bubbles are a big issue on the side walls), but the stock wheels are extremely soft and are bent with surprising ease.
Most OEM tires fitted to new cars last significantly less than those purchased aftermarket. Rotating helps but only to even out wear.

I go to D&R, too, and have had two checkups so far. About to go in for my third when I get close to 30,000 (!) miles. The service advisors are incredible -- and they've never made me feel like I'm a silly woman who doesn't know what she's talking about. Even though, perhaps, I am.
MsBrit,
How long did your remapping take? I just e-mailed my SA today for chrome repair, remapping and a malfunction warning on the shift lever. Interested to see if they take me seriously on the mapping issue. (My initial inquiry about it lead me to believe they knew nothing about it.)

My old '02 Cooper had a similar noise, took it to the dealer and they found the tires were badly cupped....They said it was fairly common, apparently due to the light back end....I believe I got less than 20k out of those tires which were Goodyear RF's...I was happy to ditch the run flats but then again, I had a spare in that car.
I don't know exactly how long it took to reflash, but I would say 3-4 hours. I told the SA about the reflash code when I dropped it off and evidently the hesitation was re-created when they test drove it. I dropped my car off at approximately 8am and was given the all clear to leave at about 4pm.

I have the Pirellis on my '11 CMS. I have only owned for two weeks and have put on 1300 of the 16,300 miles, but I was unimpressed with the state of the tires when I bought. Will need new ones this fall before the snow flies for sure! Going all weather non-rf's when I do. Size pending, on whether I do the lift kit and skid plate by then.

Given the differing front/rear weight distribution and camber differences front/rear, the chances of the tires wearing evenly is very small. Therefore ROTATE.
Had my remapping done today for the SIM 12 20 11 to resolve the laggy jerky acceleration. The one thing I noticed is that now when accelerating the steering feels loose and then tightens up after your RPM come down, I am wondering it has something to do with helping the torque steer.. I also noticed the trip odometer was removed from next to the total mileage. Total time to do the remapping was 4.5 hours.
remapping and mileage
Has anyone seen improvements in gas mileage since the mapping. I'm barely getting 22 mpg with 60% city, 40% hwy. this is with babying the accelerator, just short of hypermiling. Also notice a lot of carbon buildup on the tailpipe. Hoping this takes care of both these issues.
I was having mileage issues, however it improved after my 1st oil change at about 6,000 miles and is now averaging 30.1 mpg (combo highway and town). After the re-mapping I may have noticed a bit more improvement, but since then I have been driving mainly highway miles (31.3 mpg at my last calc). The CMS All4 is my 4th MINI and the black tail pipes have been a norm on all four of them.

MsBrit: I also had horrible tire wear but I'm ditching my run-flats now within the week. My run-flats/wheels came off for winter at 12,637 miles. I thought the rears were nearly gone (fronts looked much better). They won't go back on, but I will point it out to the dealer. I had the Pirelli P7's performance summers.
I purchased a used 2011 CMS All4 that had 6500 miles on it. I now have 9300 and am wondering when I am suppose to go in for service? I had read the manual and it stated that maintenance is computed and service is based on usage, miles etc. Can someone tell me if the computer will tell me when a service needs to be performed? I noticed under oil change it reads 9000 miles, 10/2013. So I need to change it after 9000 or by 10/2013? Can this be right?
