Interior/Exterior Transporting MINI side skirts through the airport...
Airlines do have size stipulations for cargo but they break them often. I work in the tradeshow industry and we check-in things that are up to 10 feet in length, such as signage and/or polls to hold things up. You can get special plastic carriers, they look like long tubes with removable ends and "handles"...in various sizes...to transport things like this...at sign shops or companies that specialize in packaging/shipping supplies. They cost a lot $$$ though. You'll have to check them in as luggage though -- doubt they'll let you carry them on.
Another option is to just FEDEX or UPS them. But even they have size limitations...call first with the dimensions and weight.

Every airline has their own regulations. You can call the airline directly and they can tell you the limitations. I have brought ski's in my checked luggage all the time without a problem. How long are the side skirts?
Most airlines will charge you $50-$100 to fly oversized items.
I would recommend you pack those side skirts very well. It would certainly be a shame to see them get crushed on the way home.

You can call the airlines and ask about dimension limits or box it up to protect it or put it into a large tube and check it. Sometimes artwork is rolled up in a large tube and can be checked. Skis also can be checked.
Check on the cost.
If you are a frequent flyer or know the person at the check in gate you can get stuff done for less or no charge.

I looked into shipping them and ups will take them. Anywhere for about 35 to 50 bucks will ship one box. Un-box one of them and put it in the other box. Both side skirts will fit in on box without any damage since BMW made the boxes so huge, and that should save you lots in shipping charges. Good luck.

I've flown with my bike for over 11 years racing professionally, and to bring it on the plane was once $50 dollars, then $75 and now $80. I've opened my padded box only to find scratches, dents, and missing pieces, I recommend FedEx or UPS.
