JCW Aero parts that get HEAVY wear.
Those of you with JCW Aero, take a look at your black grill surrounds.
My car is 2 years old and I was noticing serious wear on the black gill surrounds, upper and lower.
The plastic they use for these is INCREDIBLY soft. Mine is pitted, scratched and looks twice as old as the rest of my car. Now, I am meticulous about keeping my car clean and this is a part that always looks bad. I have clear bra on the entire front end of the car and it is flawless. The surrounds were not done, stupid me!
So, I thought I would try to fix them before trying to replace them...
I removed them from the car, wet sanded with 600, 800 then 1200. This took all the pits and scratches out and left the foggy sanded finish...just what I wanted at this stage. It took NO time to sand them out since they are so soft.
I then took my Porter Cable Polisher with a white pad and some Prima Swirl...PRESTO clean and shiny again. All in all, took about 30-40 minutes per piece.
I ordered a piece of bulk clear bra from invisiblemask.com, 4 foot by 18" for 30 bucks and am going to wrap them with clear bra.
Problem solved!
I forgot to take before pics, but will post after pics.
IF you have the Black JCW Grill surrounds, I highly recommend covering them in clear bra. The Chrome Grill Surrounds are MUCH harder and do not pit like this.
