My countryman S ALL4 leaked oil

My countryman S ALL4 leaked oil

After an hour of road trip to work, the drive was perfect, I was enjoying the amazing car as usual.

UNTIL I got down, I found oil leaking out from inside the bonnet onto the grill next to the headlights.

I wiped it off cleanly.

So I drove my CTM home, it was normal, perfectly fine. No signs of any problems at all. Got home, and THERE IT WAS AGAIN! Oil leaked again!

I'm worried, will this be a serious issue? btw sorry for the low-quality images from my Iphone4S taken in the middle of the night.

Call the dealer and roadside service to have it flatbedded in. I would not drive it if that was motor oil. looks like something is leaking and under pressure; not a good thing.

Before blowing the thumbnail up I thought it was cosmoline leaking from the hood (normal) or even a hydraulic motor mount (didn't think the CM had these).

If it's motor oil, could it be spraying out from a loose oil filter cap? The filter is on that side, below the coolant resevoir.

If it feels thick and sticky, could be cosmoline. Left over cosmoloine tends to ooze out in hot weather.

More photos The oil marks around the shock up sockets in these photos are dry to the touch. (dried up and harden, not oily anymore.)

I'll do a further in-depth observation under the hood later today and will report to you guys again. Kinda worried now...

It definitely came from a location of pressure. Look around to find the culprit.

Could perhaps be from a hydraulic motor mount seal (i.e. not engine oil). That happened to my R53 Mini.

It's protection stuff they apply to any areas that could corrode during transport to the states. *Mine was oozing from the hood corner down onto the plastic fender flare. *Nothing would remove the stain from the plastic. * Mini finally did a "one time courtesy deal" and replaced both front flares. *Then I used bug and tar remover to take the rest of that stuff off. *If you look around, that stuff is everywhere. * Something that needs to be addressed at the docks before the car gets shipped to the dealer. *

That's not oil, as the previous posters have mentioned, that's cosmoline. It's a rust inhibitor and it melts when it gets hot. Just take it to the dealership and have them clean it up before it gets into the plastic trim.

And as they say in the Jeep world – It is not leaking, it is marking its territory

Proud original owner of a 1999 TJ Sport that parks on cardboard in the garage

Pardon me now – feeling an overwhelming urge to go over to JeepForum.com for a bit...
