Updated OEM Roof Rack?

I was just looking around online and found a PDF install guide to the R56 roof rack system. I have a 2010 MCS with OEM rack system. I noticed that the bracket system looked a bit different in the PDF I found. Can anyone confirm a different mounting system? Is the bracket system easier to attach?

Thanks in advance!

Can you post it both what you have and what you found?

This is the one I just found online.
http://www.motoringfile.com/files/R5...f_rack_R56.PDF

I can't seem to find the one that I have but it has two clamp pieces that expand and hook as you tighten the grooved brass nut. You have to use a special included tool to keep the clamps in place while you tighten the nut.

ah, this post has a link to the install of the system I have.

It is the same thing. The Pdf just doesn't have the covers. It just looks like they updated the tools.

It looks completely different to me. The PDF looks to be a completely new mounting system. It uses an allen head torque wrench to turn in what looks like a single hook bracket rather than the socket torque wrench that I have to tighten the brass nut to compress the two bracket halves. I like the simple look of the PDF guide.

I know this is an old thread, but the new mounting system is very different from the one we have all come to know and loathe.

I'm ordering one to see if its better. I'll post pics if it is.

I'll not post the pics of the scratches the original system made. Too depressing.

Wow it does look much different. More like that of a Thule or Yakima style system.

Herleman: Hope to see some pictures when yours arrives.
