Electrical okay - what am I missing? 2003 R50
okay - what am I missing? 2003 R50
I just joined and I have a 2003 Mini that I am rebuilding after a crash.
Question:
I've heard Minis have some sort of shut off for the alt, starter etc. when in a crash - is that true? Is it the positive battery cable?
parts I know I am replacing:
both Airbags
AB module
Drvr seatbelt tensioner
bumper carrier
bumper right bracket
bumper cover
pass hood latch/lock
belts and pulleys - found a few pulley pieces down on the cross member
pass fog light
positive battery cable -- ?????
think that's all.
And what's the k-Can systems?
Anyway are there any other electronic parts involved in the shut off thing?
Some FYI - my first mini - have rebuilt Cherokees, Escapes, Libertys, and full restorations on 2 classic Volvos and a VW Bug. So I do know mechanicals - just not the electronics.
Thanks in advance!

AFAIK there is a squib in the battery cable to disconnect it. There also used to be a fuel pump shutoff, but I don't recall if that was still there in 2003. That's not a replacement part, just a reset.
squib in the battery cable
Thanks Eric
so where is the squib - hopefully it's right at the battery <g>
Hopefully I can patch it with a resistor -
I checked a couple online parts houses and they don't ship the the cable - (explosive device) so it's the stealership here locally to buy a new one
Thanks again
