Check Engine light in speedo, but not tach. 2009 Cooper S

Hi, I'm in New York state and it's been in the 20s for a while. No problems. Today before I pulled out, I noticed the Check Engine light was on in the Speedometer area. It's the steady yellow/orange color. There is no light on or warning for it in the Tachometer area.

First thing I thought was the fuel cap. So I checked that and put it on again, but that's not the issue. I checked the oil and that seems to be right at the min level, so I don't think that's the problem either. I opened the engine oil cap and sniffed and it smells a little like gas, but I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

My Coolant level has been consistently about a half-inch under the MIN level, but didn't think that'd be a big deal and would be surprised if that was the issue.

I do THINK I notice occasionally that I would feel a light hesitation in power while cruising at consistent speeds, but it's barely noticeable (so subtle that I almost wonder if it's just in my head). I read stuff about Fuel Pump issues and maybe Intake Hoses. Any ideas? Maybe just bad tank of gas (I use Premium and ALWAYS fill up at the same station).

The nearest MINI Dealer is 2 hours away, and I have an appointment with them for basic service (oil change, brakes, and the recalled water pump circuit) and was wondering if I should just wait until then (while still driving it daily) to have it looked at. There is a local BMW Dealer (non MINI) nearby, and was wondering if I should take it there to see if they can at least read the diagnostics to see maybe why it came on.

I have noticed the slight bogging down a little more and it also seems to be lower on power with hard acceleration. It also stalled on me one from a normal launch. Roadside Assistance will be towing it 2 hrs to my dealer for me.

Grab hold of a scanner to see what the faults codes are stored in the ECU's memory.
There's thousands of possibilities; scan, record, and reply back.

If the CEL is not flashing, you're a-ok to drive the car until your appointment.

You'll find that BMW service will not touch your vehicle; you will have to resort to the MINI dealership.
