I noticed that I'm pretty low on power steering fluid. The closest MINI dealer is about 3 hours away. Is there any other kind of fluid that I can get at a local autoparts store that would be compatible with my mini's power steering system? Would a BMW dealer carry it?

I get mine at the local BMW dealer service dept. -they use the same stuff. CHF 11S

The full name is 'Pentosin CHF 11S'. I paid about $26 for a one-litre container at my local auto parts store (Fairfax Auto Parts), none of the chain stores (AutoZone, etc.) stocked it. Dealer wanted about $36 for the same container.

 

NAPA sells it. And I have read that VW also sells it.

 

I got a can at Autozone once. I think it was less than $30. The other two chain auto parts stores did not carry it.
