Looking to replace my runflats before the Deal's Gap coffee party....

from looking at TireRack, my picks are narrowed down to the following:

Dunlop SP9000, Yokohama AVS ES100, and Yokohama Parada Spec-2.

My wants are handling, ride/noise, and wear in that order.

These 3 tires are all VERY close rating wise according to TireRack, and I've read the reviews of them by other MINI owners there....

anybody here have any of these tires, or another I've not mentioned, and have advice/experience to share? I was initially looking at the Pirelli Pzero's, but after comparing them they just don't look worth the money. The Toyo Proxy's are HOT looking, but not offered in the right size (205/45-17)

Yokohama AVS ES100's for about a month - very happy with them.

I think the Es-100's are a great choice for an all-around performance tire for the MINI.

I like the ES100s, and had them for about 8K miles on my Evo. They road well, were quieter than the Yokohama A046s they replaced, and were awesome in the rain. They gave up a lot in the way of ultimate grip, but were responsive and did a good job of telling you when you were pressing them to their limits, no sudden unexpected slip.

I never cared for the Dunlops, too noisy for my taste, especially considering the lack of grip I would expect from noisy tires (like my Azenis currently)

No experience with the Spec-2s.

I have the Yokohama AVS ES100. I pulled off the Dunlop runflats after about 2500 miles.

I like the Yoko's alot. Good in the rain, quiet, better ride and affordable.

I got the Parada Spec-2s and love them. If the Dunlops you are looking at buying are runflats I highly recommend that you DO NOT get them. They are noisy and have little grip. The Yoko Paradas are quiet and although I only have 1000 miles on them, I can definitely tell a difference. Sorr that I don't know much about the AVS ES100s. I almost bought those but since they were so close to the Paradas, I went with the Paradas b/c they just looked better in my opinion.

I chose Falken ZE512s as a high performance "universal" tire -- Tom

I've owned the Parada's and they were very noisy. I went with the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S in 215/45-17 and they are very quiet with an incredible treadwear rating. If you're trying to stay with the factory size and a high performance summer tire I would recommend the ES100's.

Good Luck, Jason

it depends on how you drive and how lucky you get in the particular Yokos (ES100's) that you receive, in my experience. I got a set that lasted all of 5,000 miles. I don't drive hard on the road, though I did put one track event on them (and I REALLY didn't drive hard there!). That was a bit ridiculous. I'll be switching to something else once the replacement set wears out. They seem to be lasting a bit better than the first set, but time will tell. Some other people on the board have had similar experiences with them. I don't know much about the other tires (talking to tirerack, they thought that the es100 was the better performing tire of the two Yokos you listed).

I have the Parada2's, and while they have awesome grip in dry, they're also a touch loud, and fall off big in wet. The ES100's are also a good choice, but avoid the Dunlop 9000's, they have big tread squirm at the limit, no good! The Toyo T1S, Bridgestone S-03, or the Goodyear GS-D3 are higher performance choices, right below the Falken Azenis. LOL, you could always grab a set of Hoosier R3S03's!

If you want 17's, then go for either stock 205/45-17 (like you're thinking) or perhaps 215/40-17 if the load rating is high enough.

Good luck, and see you at The Dragon again!
Ryan

from my experience, Spec2's were okay in the dry and comfortable. not that
noisy vs ES100's. SP9000's were by far better performing than the Spec2's or
ES100's and had some howling noises.

Even the SP9000 r/f's will probably out perform the Spec2's by a big margin
in the dry and wet.

You didn't list the Bridgestone S-03's, but I have switched to them about a month ago, a big difference in handling and ride quality over the 16" runflats. I also have the ES 100's on a 3 Series BMW, a really good tire for the price, but not as good as the S-03's IMHO.

S03s are great tires. I use them on my wrx....but they howl like crazy
starting at about 15% worn.

I had the SP9000's on my Miata and they were great, but I'll be giving the Yoko's a shot on my MINI

After talking with Alxex, as well as some other MINI owners on other boards, I opted to go crazy and order a set of 215/45YR-17 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires.... one size larger than stock, but they rated amazing in the TireRack reviews.... and they look cool too!

Should have them on by next weekend I think, if they ship these as fast as they did my snow tires.,.. will post an update when I get them on and can drive on them.

Now, what to do with the Eurphoria's.....
