What do you all use to protect the Wheel well covers?

My Countryman S All4 and most all of the other Cooper S Minis come with cheap soft plastic wheel well covers. Mine are matte black.

Down near the bottom mine are getting pitted up from sand and gravel. I never had this problem with other cars I owned because the stock wheel well covers were hard painted plastic or urethane that didn't pit easily.

However, Mini uses a soft plastic that I can gouge with my finger nail.

What do other Mini owners use to protect the plastic? Has anyone tried clear vinyl film like the clear bra on the front to protect the plastic?

I have mudflaps and that protects somewhat directly behind the wheels but the pitting is occurring in front of the wheels and along the bottom side skirt.

Any suggestions?

I don't as of yet have my CMS4. But, I bet some of that paint on bed liner would work wonders under there. And would probably not be very noticeable!
